NHS Swim Team’s Depth Sparks 101-76 Win

The Newtown High School boys’ swimming and diving team used its depth to defeat New Milford 101-76 in the season-opener at home on December 17.

 The first race, the 200 yard medley relay, set the tone for the meet when Newtown captured a decisive win.

In the 200 yard freestyle, Newtown had a solid finish, with the Nighthawks capturing the top three spots.

Luke Fiore was edged out in the 50 yard freestyle, but with swimmers taking second, third, and fourth place, the Newtown Nighthawks scored more overall points in that race as well.

In the 100 butterfly, Matt Iassogna was the second-place finisher, but again the points for second through fourth were enough to push the blue and gold to first overall in the event.

 Newtown took the first three slots in the 500 yard relay, with Connor Donnelly taking the top spot.

The Nighthawks earned first and second in the 200 yard free relay and captured first-place and third-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke.

Patrick Stein led the Newtown team in the 100 yard breaststroke, and second- and third-place also went to Newtown.

The Nighthawks also captured the top three spots of the 400 yard freestyle relay.

The divers swept their portion of the meet.
