Club Seeking Nominees For Empowering Women Award

The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc is accepting nominations of any female Newtown resident who is doing volunteer work that helps to empower other women of any age or young girls, for the Empowering Women Award. This annual award was established by the local club in 2007 as part of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ “Empowering Women One By One” program.

Last year’s recipient was Shirley Ferris, a local businesswoman and club member who established the Fresh Start Scholarship at WestConn for women 35 years and older returning to college.
