Poetry Every Wednesday At Bethel Arts Junction

BETHEL — Bethel Arts Junction, a cooperative art gallery located in the old Bethel railroad station, offers a weekly poetry series featuring accomplished poets, an open poetry mic, and a poetry workshop, all in a warm, friendly atmosphere where poets can experience sharing their work with others while receiving encouragement.

Doors open at 7:30 pm for the Wednesday Night Poetry Series. Open mike runs from 7:45 until approximately 8:30, featured poet(s) from 8:30 to approximately 9 pm, and a poetry workshop runs from 9:15 until participants are done for the evening. For the workshop, audience members/participants are invited to bring copies of their own poems to pass around.

Faith Vicinanza and Michael Seri are the program’s directors. For info contact Mrs Vicinanza at 426-3388 or faith@hanover-press.com, or Mr Seri at 270-6202. Bethel Arts Junction can be reached at 748-2828.

The Wednesday Night Poetry Series asks for a $1 donation each week to help defray the cost of rent as a member of the cooperative gallery. On certain nights a $3 donation is requested if the guest poet is someone of higher caliber or who is coming in from out of state.

The guest poet for January 3 is yet to be announced.

On January 10 Dennis Holt will read his work, along with  the poetry of Robinson Jeffers, who was born on that date, and Charles Olson, who died on that date.

Donald Gardner will be the guest poet on January 17. A resident of the Netherlands, Mr Gardner will be in the area as part of a book tour through New York and Connecticut. His program is called “How to get the most out of your jet lag.”

The Jan 24 poet will be announced in a few weeks. On Jan 31, Connecticut poet Gabrielle Zane will be featured.

Bethel Arts Junction is at 5 Depot Place, immediately off Greenwood Ave/Route 302 in downtown Bethel. The gallery space is in the red railroad depot building along the tracks.
