Beloved Husband And Father
Peer S. Haugaard, 55, of Mt Pleasant, S.C., died December 9, after battling lung cancer. He was born October 24, 1954, in Majorca, Spain.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Liz Borst Haugaard; daughters Melissa and Erin; in-laws Joseph and Barbara Borst of Sandy Hook; his brothers-in-law James Borst and wife, Laurie, of Sandy Hook, Joseph Borst, Jr, and wife, Kristi, of Maine, and Michael Borst of Ansonia; his parents Dan and Joan Haugaard of Seabrook Island, S.C.; two brothers; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr Haugaard attended Union College in upstate New York. After college he worked for the family business, Danco Furniture in Hatfield, Mass., and Bethel. In 1985 he opened Danco Furniture on East Bay Street in Charleston, S.C. and later moved his business to Mt Pleasant, S.C.
His family remembers him as the most kind, gentle and caring person one could know. An avid soccer player and fan, his favorite and happiest pastime was cheering on his team, the Charleston Battery Soccer Association.
There will be a memorial soccer game honoring him at the Charleston Battery Field in the spring.
