Snapshot: Pastor Zach Kinsman
Family: My wife Catharine, and our sons Luke, who is 4, and Aaron, who will be 2 in March.
How did you and your wife meet? We were high school sweethearts.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We bought our house in January 2022, so we’re going on three years now.
Do you have any pets? We have a King Charles-Cavapoo mix named Macaroni. We call him Mac.
What do you do for work? I am pastor of New Heights Baptist Church. I also have a remote sales job.
What did you want to be when you grew up? When I was younger I wanted to be a sports journalist — I’m a big sports fan and I love to write; I went to Brookfield High School and even wrote some sports for The Brookfield Journal, which was really fun — but as I reached my older teen years I knew the Lord was calling me to ministry.
What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a big sports fan. I love to golf, and I’m a big Yankees fan. I’ll take the boys out to see them in the summer when they get older.
Who or what has been the greatest influence on your life? My dad Mark. We have a really close relationship. He taught me how to be a dad, how to love the Lord, and to this day he’s a really big part of our church and our family.
What is the most recent movie you saw in the theater? Wicked. I went with my wife. She’s such a big fan, and it was really good.
Favorite food? Italian, 100%. My mom’s 100% Italian, so growing up, that was big, her homemade Italian dishes. Christmases and Thanksgivings are something else. There’s a lot, a lot of food.
Who are your favorite musical performers? Right now it’s Chris Tomlin and Brandon Lake. They’re both praise and worship Christian artists.
What was the most recent concert you went to? Chris Tomlin. My wife and I went with some friends to see him in New Jersey a few months back and it was really good.
Favorite color? Red.
What is something you cannot live without? My family, first and foremost, and my faith. It’s an integral part of who I am.
What is your favorite part about Newtown? I love the close-knit community feel, and the friendliness of the town. Everyone knows everyone, and I think that’s awesome. We love raising our kids here. It’s so family focused.
Do you have a personal credo? The acronym JOY, for Jesus, Others, You. True joy in your life comes to you by following that.
