Occupation: I’m a K through 5 art teacher in Westport. I’ve been teaching for nearly 20 years in Westport, and I did teach before I had my own family. So one way or another, I’ve been wrapped up in teaching for a long time.

Family: My husband Gary and I have two daughters, both graduates of Newtown High School. Evan is 29 and living in Fairfield, and Heather, 28, lives in Brooklyn now.

Pets: I have a silly cat named Kitty. We figure she’s about 17 years old now. She has us well-trained. We are at her mercy to let her in and out at all times.

How long have you been in Newtown? We’ve been here for 18 years.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a clay artist. I get my inspiration from nature. I like to do wall pieces that display the beauty of leaves. I do utilitarian pieces, too. I’m a member of Walnut Hill Community Church and am active there. I do enjoy reading and belong to a book club. I’ve been responsible for the elder care of some of my older relatives the past year, so that has kept me busy. I like to crochet and do a lot of baby things for friends’ and neighbors’ littlest newcomers.

Do you have a favorite book? I recently read a book recommended to me by a friend, The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. It’s from a dog’s perspective and was just a heartwarming and heart wrenching story.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? We like southern Maine and northern Vermont. Anywhere north about covers it.

What is the best thing about Newtown? It’s orientation toward doing a lot for the kids. The schools and the extra activities and sports keep kids involved and active. It’s one of the reasons we came to Newtown.

Do you have a hero? My earthly father, and my heavenly father have both inspired me. My father was a patient, loving, giving man who loved art and was willing to be a friend to anybody. He passed away in April.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

What makes you laugh? Children’s antics. I’ve seen many! Their innocence and their antics make me laugh.
