Middle School Boysâ Basketball Team Starts Strong
The Newtown Middle School eighth grade boysâ basketball team began the season with a pair of wins this week.
The boys beat Brookfield 60-41 on Monday. Leading by just two points at halftime, Newtown broke the game open with a 19-4 run in the third quarter to pull away. The team was led in scoring by Julian Dunn with a season high of 18 points and the smooth shooting of Will Dalton who also had a season high of 15 points.
Troy âThe Factorâ Frangione and Colton Smith controlled the tempo of the game with solid defense and precision passing as Bobby Archiere patrolled the paint. Harry Depuy added six points with some acrobatic shooting and Jeremy Doski wrecked havoc on the opposing offense.
Newtown won its first home game with convincing 62-30 effort over Schagticoke on Tuesday. The team was led in scoring by Frangione with 13 points, all in the first quarter. Frangione beat the buzzer with a half-court shot that banked in to give the Lions a 25-11 lead.
Dunn was tough to handle in the middle and added 10 points. Depuy came on strong off the bench, adding ten points and controlling the boards. Nick Roche led the team from the point with multiple assists and six points. Shane Quimby also added six points off the bench to go along with his aggressive defense. Jason Ferrari and David Matthews combined for five points and Charlie Huegi controlled the tempo from the point.
