Grade 4
Exploding Oreos 24, Carminuccioâs Huskies 10: The Oreos remain undefeated by exploding in the second half of Saturdayâs game behind Kimberly Butteryâs 8 points and Jenna Lavelleâs 6. Grace âPistol Peteâ Pettinelli was flawless in her handling of the ball, providing teammates with 6 assists. On the defensive side for the Oreos, Casey McLean made her presence known with her quickness and her steals. The Huskies offense was led by Claire Duboisâ scoring effort with multiple assists from Julia Sullivan. Anna Cartelli was the Huskies defensive standout, while Brianna Lovely and Annika Brady were the dominant rebounders of the game.
Law Office of Gail Matthews Pink Panthers 24, Badgers 22: In this highly anticipated game, the Pink Panthers got out of the gate quickly and then hung on to win in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Hawley. Angela Vodola and Sonia Ahmmaripour led the Panthers balanced scoring attack with 8 and 6 points, respectively. Veronica Vodola was assist leader while Jenna Gonski was tenacious on defense and Samantha Bicho cleaned the glass for her team. Emily Krasnickas and Madeline Brock used their speed on both ends of the floor to frustrate their opponents. Though they found themselves down by several baskets early on, the feisty Badgers maintained their focus and clawed their way back behind a total team effort.
The offensive spark was provided by Ally Tolson, 10 points, and Ashley Solomon, 6 points, with clutch baskets being made down the stretch by Liza Gentrup, Nathalie Schickendantz, and Kendra Saunders. Chloe Bigwarfe and Savannah LaFerriere ran the floor well and played tough, smothering defense in what will go down as one of the most exciting fourth grade girlsâ basketball games of the season.
Grades 5-6
Rankin Sports Pink Panthers 28, The Flash 23: The Pink Panthers were led by point leaders Katie McCabe and Caroline Caporale with 22 points combined. Elizabeth Weisgerber and Sarah Lindell contributed as well. Great defense by Katherine Shaw, Hannah Luby, and Alexandria Sabillon. Excellent effort by Isabel Shaw. The Flash made a furious comeback in the fourth quarter only to fall short. Led by captain Julia Anderson in assists, Allie Indelicato poured in 12 points. Olivia Holman and Abbie Pearson led a strong defense, with Caitlyn Child playing strong on the boards.
Crazy Fruits 21, The Flash 10: Heather Azzarito led the way for the Crazy Fruits with 6 points, Emily Dirga led the team with assists, while Tegan Dougherty and Jackie Guevera played great defense and rebounding to help register their first victory of the season. The Flash played tough in their second game of the day, led in defense by Claire Swanson and Cathy Hyeon. Captain Kaitlyn Hull and Lauryn Ankers played strong in the paint ,with Allie Idelicato tallying all 10 points.
Colonical Chiropractic Dr Schmid Mighty Mustangs 26, 56ers 10: The Mighty Mustangs put together a great team effort in winning their second game of the season. Alexandra Nuzzo, Lauren King, and Natalie Shaker scored 6 points each to lead the Mustangâs offense. Casey Muckell played an all-around great game, scoring 4 points, handing out 4 assists, and making 4 steals. Jenna Ciavara and Rebecca Gavel led a tough defensive effort combining for 6 more steals and causing many held balls and Emma Schmid-Tharnish cleared the boards pulling down six rebounds.
The 56ers struggled against the Mighty Mustangs. Playing without two key players forced other teammates to step up and they did. Danielle Otero took command of her squad early and provided brilliant support when paired with Sarah Dowling. Otero shined with 6 points, numerous assists, screens, and rebounds. Dowling also showed grit offering 4 points and more than 6 rebounds. Defensive stars Bropleh and Futterman racked up more steals.
Lady Hawks 29, The Storm 26: Lady Hawks won an overtime nail-bitter game by the score of 29-26. The Lady Hawksâ Emily Neave led the team with 12 points. Kendra Dunnigan found an open teammate on offense for 6 assists. Grace Frost led the team with 8 rebounds and Abigail Pereira anchored the defense with 4 steals. Carly Kreshpan erupted for 16 points to pace the Storm on offense. Julia Bogdanoff chipped in 3 points to go along with 5 rebounds and Camryn Findley added 2 points and 3 steals. Charli Condon played great pressure defense by grabbing 5 steals and disrupting the Lady Hawks offense throughout the game.
Zephyr Lock Orange Crush 22, Pampered Chef Thunder 16: Orange Crush prevailed in their victory led on offense by Ashely Lynch with 10 points. Shannon Cheh and Lexy Leidlein also chipped in on the scoring, along with Dylan Zahansky. In the tough loss for the Thunder, Kayla Ward led the scoring with 5 points. Olivia Hamula and Tessa Leon-Gambetta showed great hustle and athleticism throughout the game. Sarah Brittin and Kayla Petite anchored the defense.
Grade 6
Newtown 48, New Milford 16: Newtown was firing on all cylinders as they recorded their highest point total of the season. Nikki Zaccaro led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Megan Goyda with 9. Jessica Maturo, Meghan Doyle, and Jillian Pieretti contributed 6 points apiece. Colleen MCCarthy buried two long jumpers for 4 points. Equally impressive were the 26 steals by Newtownâs swarming defense, as Hailey Conrad, Zaccaro, Doyle, and Goyda each had 5 thefts.
Newtown 33, Weston 26: Newtownâs strong inside game and suffocating zone defense thwarted a late rally by a much improved Wilton squad. Goyda had the seasonâs first double-double with 15 points and 13 boards. Zaccaro added 8 points and 7 rebounds. Cassidy Datin (6 rebounds) and Kamdynn Moroney (3 rebounds) were tough down low on both ends of the court and scored a bucket apiece. Olyvia Shaw had some nice passes in addition to 3 steals and a basket.
Boys
Midgets (Grade 2)
Maroon Magic v Blue Ice: The Magic continues to improve their skills as they work on man to man defense and looking for the open teammate on offense. Emmett Dowd and Kyle Reilly both had a strong game on both offense and defense by contributing points and playing tough on defense. Matt Sortino also had a good game on offense and contributed points by going strong at the basket. Ryan Wagnblas played tight deny defense and drove the ball to the basket on several occasions. Macklin Berry showed good hustle with several rebounds and quick hands with some steals and deflections.
For the Blue Ice, CJ Demers scored a number of baskets and distributed the ball well on offense. Jake Dandrea and Nick Sabillon displayed some slashing drives to attack the basket. Steven Cotton canned a few jump shots and Arav Dave made a nifty move for a nice 2-point swish. Miller Tetreault, Jack Mahar, and Aiden DellaCorte played aggressive defense to freeze the opponents.
Night Hawks v Lighting: Clayton Kunzweiler, Gus Coffey, and Ryan Ruddy combined to score many baskets to lead the Nighthawks offensive attack. Matthew Williams, Connor Mandarano, and James Malin led the defensive effort, pulling down numerous rebounds and making many defensive stops. Devon Herbstman and Zach Kugler controlled the boards, each pulling down 5 rebounds. Michael Haddick scored numerous baskets for the Lightning in his first game of the season. Daniel Jaeger and Kyle Pettit played aggressive defense, while Ryder Palumbo and Nicholas Fischer controlled the boards, grabbing many rebounds each. Sean OâSullivan and Hayden Miller ran the offensive plays to perfection, resulting in driving scores to the basket.
Bananas v Oranges: In a game dubbed âThe Fruit Bowl,â the Bananas were strong once again, this time versus the top-ranked Oranges. Trevor Jacozzi, Noah DiNallo, Karl Miller, and Grant Baker were key offensive forces, while Ethan Paley, Ben Paley, Jack Street, Jack Petersen, Jake Mailloux, and Luke Hannan showed true toughness on the defensive side of the ball and the boards. The Oranges showed up with only six players and put forth a great all-around game. The following players played great defense and offense: Michael Elston, Jeff Garritty, Neil Kalra, Adian Finnegan, CJ Cuomo, and Adam Zibluk.

Newtown Road Race Blue Racers: Offensive players: Justin DeThomas and William Swierbut; defensive players: Eamon Doherty and Brandon Lutz.
Ghostbuster: Offensive players: Ricky Ward, Sam Eppers, and JP Iaropoli; defensive players: Jack Kuligowski, Stephen Sedensky, and Eli Enriquez.

New Milford 26, Mavericks 16: The Mavericks were led on offense by Luke Hannan, Jack Kuligowski, Liam Murphy, Jack Mulligan, and Joe Rios. The Mavericks had a great defensive effort from Kyle Good, Jack Lydon, Keenan Murphy, Dillon Robinson, Kyle Sullivan, and Josh Taylor.
Bantams (Grade 4)
The Beasts 21, Blues 22: Faris Kaghat and Jimmy Davies combined for 15 points for the Beasts. Bobby Elston had 4 assists while Harvey Long had 4 steals and Jared Tod had 7 rebounds. For the Blues, Harry Lucas had 10 points. Nicholas Cappelli had 4 assists, Alex Wong led the defense with 4 steals, and Trevor Bottom had 7 rebounds.
Flaming Monkeys 24, Globetrotters 18: Luke Fischer and Riley McCafferty combined for 16 points for the Monkeys. Ben Futterman had 3 assists, Gavin Connors had an outstanding game on defense with 5 steals and Liam Creeden had 7 rebounds. For the Globetrotters, John Albanesi and James Schumacher combined for 16 points. Ty Dickinson had 5 assists, Bryan Ingwersen led the defense with 4 steals and Anthony Lynch had 6 rebounds.
Aces 24, Mavericks 20: The Aces were led by the scoring of Todd Petersen and Jonathan Nahmias who combined for 16 points. Mike Annesley had 4 assists and Matt Jaeger had 9 rebounds. The Mavericks were led by Jack Sullivan and Carter McCleary who combined for 12 points. The defense was led by Nick Accousti with 5 steals and Cameron Trivers with 7 rebounds.
Adviserstrust.com Heat 24, Mavericks 10: For the Heat, Tucker Garrity and Brennan Mayer combined for 11 points, while Eric Casangrande had 3 assists, Thomas Murray had 5 steals, and Garrett Norberg had 11 rebounds. The Mavericks were led by Cameron Trivers with 6 points. The defense was led by Jack Swanson with 4 steals and Alex Katsuleres with 7 rebounds.
Grade 5
Huskies 32, Red Bulls 23: The Huskies prevailed in a highly intense game by pulling away early in the fourth quarter. Down 21-20, Andrew DeLuca pulled down several key offensive and defensive rebounds. Christian Adam scored often from the outside with 10 points and David Daria was all over the court on both sides of the ball contributing with 8. The Red Bulls hung tough through out the game, led by Adam Farleyâs 10 points and tenacious defense by Ben Harrison. Ryan Patrick played well and Justin Woodward made a few key baskets late in an overall fine effort.
Kia-Mazda of Old Saybrook Nighthawks 31, Black Knights 24: The Black Knights dug themselves a deep black hole early and trailed 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Undaunted and hungry for their first victory, they mounted a comeback and briefly took the lead in the third quarter 15-14 led by Cameron Champagne. Cameron made 3 long field goals and nailed both of his only 2 free throws and finished with 10 points. Dwyer Grimes grabbed 8 rebounds, and went 3 for 5 from the field. Kent Mullen scored some clutch second quarter baskets pulling the Knights to 15-11 at the half, finishing with 6 points and 3 rebounds. Tommy Coppinger added 3 assists and 2 steals. Anthony Isabella played his usual great defense and Brooks Petershack broke his scoring drought by going 1 for 4 from the charity stripe. John Payne stepped it up under the boards with 3 rebounds. Thomas Skrelja of the Nighthawks led the way with 12 points and strong rebounding. Josh Dunn had a strong all around game and Wally Skrelja hit some clutch outside shots. Kirby MacDonald led the defensive effort for the Night Hawks.
Celtics 25, Heat 23: All game the Celtics took great shots, but for three quarters the rock was not falling into the ocean. As a result, the Câs were behind for most of this game against the strong Heat opponent. Down by 4 buckets going into the fourth quarter, to their credit the young Celtics did not give up, played aggressive defense and took advantage of forced turnovers. Leading the full court press for the Celtics were Michael âThe Flashâ Narducci and Owen âThe Rebounderâ Rahr. Both Mike and Owen hustled all over the court and showed great poise while contributing to the Celticâs remarkable comeback.
Cayden âThe Gloveâ Dunn played great defense all game as well, being assigned to the Heatâs potent shooter, recorded 4 blocks, and got the key rebound to seal the victory as the Heat tried to take the lead in the closing seconds of this 5th grade nail biter. Ryan Williams last-second shot just missed and he led the Heat with 10 points and 5 rebounds. Ryan Mailloux played well with 4 points and 4 assists. The Jones brothers, Liam and Nate got some timely rebounds and hustled throughout the game. Matt Sadowski contributed 6 rebounds and some strong defense.
Scorpions 17, Hornets 2: The Scorpionsâ Danny Badiola received a pass from Doug Carriero, drained a 16-foot jumper and the team never looked back. Greg Brissette scored 7 points. Six Scorpion players scored, including Jermane Anyoha, Ben Terry, and Alex Street. Defensive leaders included Doug Carriero (4 steals, 3 rebounds), Alex Street (3 steals, 5 rebounds) and Mark Hall (3 steals). Also playing great defense were Eric Vigneau, Connor DiNallo, and Wyatt Moyers. The Hornets were led in scoring by Jackson Dooley. Kyle Chernoff and Liam Begany were a big part in the stinging Hornets defense. Zack DeMeglio never let up all game and finished with a team high of 6 steals.
Tornadoes 21, Dynamite 20: In a battle of unbeatens, the Tornadoes triumphed over a tough Dynamite squad 21-20. After a quick start that saw Adam Wolff score 6 early points, baskets by Jake Pirone, Owen Walsh, and Jack Bittman helped the Tornadoes maintain a small advantage for most of the game. Walsh, Eugene Citrano, Tristan Crone, Rhett Saunders, and Ken Malin teamed up to hold the Dynamiteâs talented backcourt in check.
In a heart-stopping fourth quarter, the Dynamite employed a full-court press and staged a furious rally. The Tornadoes maintained their composure and continued to play solid defense and rebound effectively with key boards coming from Matthew Menousek and Jack Buchler. Clutch free throws in the fourth quarter by Citrano and Pirone helped the Tornadoes hold off the Dynamite and notch the win. Max Goldstein was all over the floor defensively for the Dynamite. Jacob Duffy and Robert Murray were a force on the boards and Matt Principi and Chris Duffy did all they could to try to help the fourth quarter comeback that just fell short.
Grade 6
The Thunder 33, The Bulldogs 23: The Thunder benefited from having the full team on the court for the first time this season, and everyone participated in the win. The offense was led by Justin Dunn and Graham Dowd, who combined for 20 points. Kevin Arther set the example on defense with a team leading 6 steals. The baseline was anchored by Eric Mockovac, who hauled down 7 rebounds. Zach Anderson was all over the court feeding in 5 assists and setting key picks to keep the offense moving. The Bulldogs offense was led by Hunter Cobb with 7 points and Alex Dunleavy with 6 points, Evan Kohlsaat, Adam Beckett, Thomas Sanczyk, and Will LeMay had 3 points each. On defense Brandon Pavlicek powered the boards with 6 rebounds and 2 steals and Max and Andrew Janco were both strong with 3 rebounds a steal apiece. Matthew Bucci showed a strong team spirit by trying to play sick but the body wasnât willing.
Golden Ringer 40, The Blue Ninjas 25: The Golden Ringer was led by Austin DeSousa with 13 points followed by Henry Primavera with 10. The defense was strong led by Alex Hess, Matt Kugler, and Will Whitlock. The Blue Ninjas once again played a well-fought game. Leading the scoring this week was Chad Azzarito with 7 points, Peter Clifford with 6, and Matt Guinee with 4. Defensively, RH Clark, Bryan Morrissey, and Matt Krasnickas had an outstanding day combining for 14 rebounds and 9 steals. Nick Lametto and Matt Fuchs contributed on both sides of the ball with a couple baskets and some huge assists. The shot of the day came from Tyler LaCroce who handled a tough pass in the middle of the paint to land a big basket to keep the Ninjas within striking distance. David Usher landed on the IR this week, but did a great job cheering on his teammates from the bench.
Newtown Mystery 37, The Grasshoppers 21: Newtown Mystery offense was led by Jack Phelps and Mitchell Long. The defense was led by Dylan Kretz and Robert Hutchins. The Grasshoppers had a little more hop in their game this week but still were not able to get their first win of the season. Turnovers led to too many easy points for Garyâs Troopers. Owen McInerney scored 4 of his 6 points in the first quarter keeping the game close at 12-9. Owen also had 2 steals and 4 rebounds in the game but it was not enough to hold off the troopers who broke away the game in the second half in route to a 37-21 win. Bradley Capeci played his best game so far this season, scoring 4 points after going 2 for 3 from the floor, earning him offensive player of the game. He also had 3 steals. Patrick Godino and Matt Kretz added 4 points each. Defensive player of the game Bradley Wiseman led the Hoppers with 4 steals and corralled 2 rebounds. Nick Venezia also played well for the Grasshoppers, scoring 2 points with 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Ryan Norton was 1 for 2 from the charity stripe and also had 3 rebounds.
Newtown Mystery 37, The Red Storm 26: The Newtown Mystery offense was led by Dylan Kretz and Adam Bell. The defense was led by Jacob Steineberg and a very strong and physical game from Taylor Koonz. The Red Stormâs offense was led by Joseph Palanzo and Jack Palermo. The defense was led by Matt Frazzetta and Colin Villamana.
The Hershey Kisses 34, The Untouchables 14: Hershey kisses won 35-14 in a balanced, team effort. Will Huegi led the team with 14 points, and Greg Trimarchi controlled the paint with 10 points. Steven Moccio (5 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 8 steals, 2 blocks) and Robert Lombardo (4 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals) each had outstanding contributions on both ends of the floor. The Untouchableâs offense was led by Chris Anesi and Jordan Klein. The defense was led by Justin Gillespie and Patrick Flynn.
Juniors (Grades 7-8)
Magic 31, Newtown Deli & Catering Celtics 29: Deacon Beauchemin and Keaton McCleary combined for 15 points for the Magic. Bryan Kiley, CJ Dunn, Mason Galanis, and Lucas La Destro provided solid defense. For the Celtics, Adam Israel led all scorers with Matt Bouton, Jack Procaccini, Eric Street, and Will Swain all chipped in with points. Dan Hamula played aggressive defense until an injury forced him out.
Bearcats 38, Wildcats 32: Nick Roche and Ryan Sullivan combined for 19 points to lead the Bearcats. Ryan Schreiber, David Corsi, and David Csordas played good defense. For the Wildcats, Zach Weiland had 10 points and 9 rebounds. Sawyer Conrad had 4 assists, while Cay Gattey and Mat Inwersen played tough defense.
Knicks 50, Bricklayers 34: Nick Lotricciano led the scoring for the Knicks with 20 points. Nate Dowd, Liam Decker, and Danny Romeo played tight defense for all four quarters. For the Bricklayers, Zach Aumueller and Christian Thonasoulis combined for 18 points, while Bubba Condon and Andrew Craigin led the defense.
Gaston Law Wolfpack 33, Razorbacks 25: The Wolfpack were led by Joe Santella with 11 points, while Andrew Drap, Daniel Colucci, and Callahan Brock played tough defense. Harry Depuy led the Razorbacks with 17 points. Tommy Shaker, Conrad Morris, and Max Donaher played good defense.
Walri 61, Rankin Sports Vipers 39: Tommy Rahr and Gordon Walsh led the Walri with 24 points combined; tight defense was played by the whole team. For the Vipers, Dylan Tyrell had 10 points and Stephen Grasso had 9, with Colton Maroney playing good defense.
Lydon Appraisals Raptors 39, Taunton Hill Landscaping Wolverines 18: Jason Ferrari led the Raptors with 15 points. The defense was held together by Owen Samson, Sean Kemsley, Bobby Lydon, and Max Weber. The Wolverines were led by Bobby Archieri with 8 points. Joey Carino had 4 steals and Forest Speed had 10 rebounds.
Dr Curtis Beck Patriots 42, Bulldogs 30: The Patriots were led by Bryce Decker with 18 points and Josh Houle with 8. Strong defense was shown by Kyle Mangold, James Carney, and Spencer Tolson. For the Bulldogs, Josh Sherman led with 10 points, while Peyton Manning, Connor Flint, and Jim Payne played good defense.
Thunder 45, Sugar Hill Auto Body Huskies 42: The Thunder won an overtime thriller behind the scoring of Jaret DeVillis (16) Albert Dean (10) and Trevor Lopez (8). Sam Czel owned the boards with 14 rebounds and Shawn McCarthy played great defense with 5 steals. For the Huskies, Charlie Huegi had 21 points and Jimmy Widman added 7. Jeremy Fellin had 6 steals and Patrick Briscoe had 6 rebounds.
Newtown 46, Ridgefield 44: In its first game of Fairfield County Basketball League (FCBL) play, the Newtown Ballerz defeated Ridgefield by a final score of 46-44. The Ballerz jumped out to a 23-17 halftime lead behind the strong inside play of Bobby Haskins and Hayes Kelchner, who combined for 15 points in the first half. Newtown withstood a second half run by Ridgefield and was able to seal the victory with some clutch free-throw shooting from Patrick Conte, Connor Barrett, and Lucas OâBrien. Patrick Conte led all scorers with 15 points and Kelchner and Haskins finished with 12 and 9 points, respectively. Solid contributions were also received on the offensive and defensive ends from Mitch Savoca, Ben Mason, Tom Cotton, and Jack Lavelle.
Newtown 51, St Theresaâs Trumbull 36: The Ballerz jumped out to a quick 26-17 lead at the half behind the strong inside performance of Patrick Conte and Bobby Haskins and the hot perimeter shooting of Mitch Savoca. The trio combined for 20 points in the half. Newtown exploded for 21 points in the third quarter and extended its lead to 47-26 behind an 8-point outburst from Jack Lavelle. In the 51-36 win, solid offensive and defensive contributions were also received from Jack Moulder, Ben Mason, Connor Barrett, Lucas OâBrien, Tom Cotton, and Hayes Kelchner.
Grade 7
Newtown Gold 32, Redding 35: Newtown erased a 10-point deficit to get within one with less than two minutes remaining, but could not get the go-ahead basket. Ethan Carpenter led the way with 7 points, followed by Matt Maturo with 6. James Accousti (4 steals) and Geoff Santore each scored 4. On the glass, Maturo pulled down 7 rebounds, followed by Tim VanderHave with 6 and Joe Duero with 5.
Newtown Gold 23, Bethel 49: A very large Bethel team proved too strong for Gold. Michael Doyle had a fine all-around game while scoring 8 points. Dillon Palumbo added 6 and Duero 3. Kieran Lynch played well at the point and had a couple of assists.
Newtown Gold 33, Ansonia 61: Newtown was within six at halftime before a relentless Ansonia team pulled away early in the third.
