First Jazz First Thursday Of The New Year

WATERBURY — The Mattatuck Museum Arts and History Center will feature Alta DeChamplain at the next Jazz First Thursday event on January 6. The program will run from 5:30-7:30 pm. 

Atla DeChamplain graduated from the Greater Hartford Academy of the Arts in 2004 and received her bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from the Jazz Studies program at the Jackie McLean Institute of Jazz at the Hartt School of Music in 2009. She also had the privilege of studying with Jon Hendricks at the University of Toledo.

Currently, she and her husband Matt DeChamplain lead a jazz trio that performs the American Songbook, jazz standards and original compositions. Her favorite singers are Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby McFerrin and Kurt Elling.

Ms DeChamplain will be accompanied by her husband for the Waterbury performance. Both have performed at Litchfield Jazz Festival.

Admission is $15 ($7 for members), and includes wine, beer, light refreshments. Reservations are not necessary for Jazz First Thursday events, but additional information is available by calling 203-753-0381.
