Girls 5th

Newtown 29, Wilton 14 – Riley Wurtz, Alyssa Finkenstadt, Meghan Condon and Nora Murphy combined for 21 points to lead Newtown.

Newtown 27, Redding 7 – Jessica Jowdy, Abbey Doski, Jessica Lynch, Riley Wurtz and Alyssa Finkenstadt provided all the scoring for Newtown in this easy win. The Newtown defense, led by Molly Mahony, held Redding to just one field goal.

Newtown 18, New Fairfield 15 – Kendall Svanda and Riley Wurtz, with six points each, led a late charge as Newtown pulled away for the win. Christina Caporale and Nora Murphy provided strong rebounding and helped the defense hold down New Fairfield’s potent offense.

Boys 7th

Newtown 53, Ridgefield 52 – Trailing by six points at the half, Newtown (6-0, 2-0) deployed multiple defenses and a balanced offensive attack that lifted the locals past Ridgefield. George Zaruba led the scoring with 14 while Peter Young (10) and Ralph Sergiovanni (8) made critical free throws in the fourth quarter to ice the win. Nick Nazer, Andy Lapple, Kyle Kromberg, Max Paynter, and Dan Greenwood also contributed to Newtown’s scoring attack. Casey Tenney and Dan Lynch provided strong defensive support.

Newtown 49, Bethel 43 – An even, balanced attack propelled Newtown (7-0, 3-0) to the win. Peter Young, Dan Lynch, George Zaruba and Andy Lapple combined for 30 points. Ralph Sergiovanni, Kyle Kromberg, Nick Nazer, Max Paynter and Casey Tenney also provide strong offensive support. Dan Greenwood played strong on both ends of the court.

Newtown 54, Brookfield 44 – Newtown extended its winning streak to eight games with a 10-point win over Brookfield. Ralph Sergiovanni had a breakout game and had double-digit points (18) and rebounds while blocking five shots. George Zaruba, Andy Lapple and Max Paynter combined for 29 points. Casey Tenney and Nick Nazer provide additional offensive support and were strong off the boards. Dan Lynch and Dan Greenwood played tenacious defense.

Junior Boys

Eagles 49, Lakers 39 – Keith McGrath canned 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Eagles to the win. Kyle O’Connor dished off six assists while Ryan Murphy made five steals. For the Lakers, Tyler Edwards popped in 12 points while Jeff DiNicola and RJ Swift combined for 16 more. Mark Reyes and Brian Grimes played well.

Wildcats 47, Huskies 36 – Jake DeVellis poured in 25 points and CJ Portolese grabbed 15 rebounds to lift the Wildcats past the Huskies. Mike Gabor and Mike Lago played tough defense. For the Huskies, Joe Cappiello popped in 18 points as Zack Brazo dragged down 22 rebounds. Zack Dent had a wonderful floor game, displaying effort by diving into the stands for loose balls.

Rockets 39, Celtics 33 – Peter Wlasuk scored 12 points and Ryan Goodridge added eight points to lead the Rockets. David Kopyscinski, Josh Jowdy and Brendan Blawie had strong performances. For the Celtics, Trevor Todd popped in 12 points and Ben Mahony added seven. Kevin McCarthy and Ryan Pendergist played sparkling defense.

Hawkeyes 45, Nighthawks 24 – Matt Baier, Calvin Song and Matt Hill had solid floor games and lifted the Hawkeyes to the win. For the Nighthawks, Rob Brautigam canned 10 points as Zack Gordon and Michael Herring added four points apiece. Alex Miller and Michael Shevlin sparked the defense.

Knicks 43, Heat 40 – Kenton Lord canned 13 points and Kyle Droniak added four to lead the Knicks past the Heat. Martin Basso dished off four assists. For the Heat, Eric Thornberg popped in eight points while Jamey Bower grabbed six boards. Rich Andreotta and Dan O’Connor played well.

Bullets 49, Bobcats 37 – Charlie Kerr poured in 20 points and Kevin O’Connell made 10 steals as the Bullets edged the Bobcats. Evan Kennedy dished off five assists and Charlie LoBosco grabbed eight rebounds. For the ‘Cats, Dan Quinn canned 13 points and Kyle Pickle added nine. Tom Gilbert played well.

Nuggets 45, Bullets 42 – Matt Narel scored 14 points and Tory Deakin added 12 more as the Nuggets nipped the Bullets. Eric Hoffman dished off five assists and Evan Triantafilidis grabbed nine rebounds. For the Bullets, Charlie Kerr scored 14 points.

Jaspers 54, Yellowjackets 34 – Steve Musco scored a game-high 18 points and lifted the Jaspers to their second win of the season. Shane Wurtz and Joey Scarpelli played well. For the ‘Jackets, Ryan Schmidt scored 11 points while Mehul Garjar, Joe Fedak and Brandon Bennett had solid performances.

Intermediate Girls

Suns 37, Shamrocks 22 – Marilyn LaCroce and Kelly O’Connor combined for 24 points while Maricca Cucco and Breanne Lubinsky dominated the boards to lead the Suns to the win. Allison Blume was outstanding on defense and Stef Clavette had an excellent all-around game. For the Shamrocks, Julie Ficks powered the offense as Michelle Margait, Jamie Keating and Audra Stanton played well.

Da Bulls 37, Nighthawks 21 – Lauren Meyer, Taylor Benson and Jenna Bonaccorso scored 10 points apiece to lead Da Bulls to the win. Nicole and Jillian Thompson played well. For the ‘Hawks, Shannon Paproski scored 10 points while Jill Jagoe grabbed 10 rebounds. Jessica Fossum made three steals while Christina Naldini and Katie Fossum had strong games.

Da Bears 24, Liberty 16 – Andrea Nazer scored 10 points and Emma Fiore added six points to lead Da Bears past the Liberty. Emma Herring and Courtney Amaral played well. For the Liberty, Ashley Perry, Chelsea Gray and Megan Loose all had strong performances.

Rim Rockers 24, Huskies 20 – Alison Pliszka canned 10 points as the Rim Rockers won their first game of the season. Carlie Gehrman, Morgan Hopper and Emily Rowe played well. For the Huskies, Brittany Bauch popped in six points as Katie Lago, Kyra Middleer and Christie Iorfino had solid floor games.

Midget Boys

Celtics versus UConn Huskies – Tyler Gibney and Michael Scharfenberg powered the offense while Michael Daubert and Josh Tuffy paced the D for the Celtics. For the Huskies, Matt Hoyt, David Cartisano and Patrick Riccardi had fine offensive performances while Nick Marcinek and Spencer Brindly anchored the defense.

Squarepants versus Huskies – Kyle Morrissey, Tomas Nazer, Ricky Kerins, Scott Buchanan and Steven Dullinger paced the Squarepants while Colton Sposta, Joe Davis, Jim Parker and Matt Rahtelli had fine floor games for the Huskies.

Challengers versus Tigers – Max Lopez, Ryan Seymour, Matt Wood, Tom Bauer and Jack Benedict played well for the Challengers while Andrew Tarantino (10 points), Sam Ashey (10 rebounds), Jacob Feinstein (8 assists) and Nick Madden (5 steals) had strong performances for the Tigers.

Golden Eagles versus Blue Devils – Brennan Merrick, Eric Song, Bubba LeBlanc and Ivan Hutchinson played well for the Eagles as Nahor Patel, Sean Elliott, Jordan Sock and Christian Mather had fine performances for the Devils.

Orange Crush versus Celtics – Charlie Helgren, Tommy Cassin, Matt Lindel and Brian Kruger led the Crush while the Celtics received fine floor games from Stephan Conway, Cameron McCleary, Josh Villa and Mike Davis.

Red Bombers versus Nighthawks – David Makuch, Daniel Winn, Patrick Haggerty, John Levinski and Dean Demers played well for the Bombers while Colin Moller, Miles LoBuglio, Kevin Shpunt and Connor Quinn had strong floor games for the ‘Hawks.

Pistons versus Grizzlies – Connor Gallagher scored 14 points and Reid Schmidt dished off eight assists to lead the Pistons. Patrick Rawley grabbed six rebounds and David Gerics made five steals. For the Grizzlies, Jack Lago played well as did Brendan Peterson, Patrick Mullin and Robbie Russo.

Midget Girls

Huskies versus Devils – Bridget Powers, Sarah Stofko, Rachel Maguire and Stephanie Zamary powered the Huskies as Kate McManus, Mary Beth Semosky, Shaina Stamp and Emily Grimes played well for the Devils.

Purple Panthers versus Funky Monkeys – Jessica Gibbons and Laura Sarna played well on offense while Ryan Cassin and Ryanne Duffy played well on defense for the Panthers. Brittany Pearson and Emily Cannavo led the Monkeys on offense as Lauren Meyer and Mariann Blawie led the defense.

Fighting Irish versus Yellowjackets – Vanessa Feldman, Shannon O’Gorman, Taylor Brady and Karlie Kuligowski had strong games for the Irish as Jenny Indelicato and Courtney Campbell led the ‘Jackets.

Fireballs versus Wolverines – Amanda Crowell, Kelly Kuligowski, Suzie Gissen and McKenzie Lapp had solid floor games for the Fireballs as Kelsey Packer, Julia Trudell, Courtney Escoda and Courtney Tenney powered the Wolverines.

Golden Bears versus Ballhogs – Kate Butera, Erica Knapp, Julie LaPerch and Katherine Clark led the Golden Bears as Lindsey Jagoe, Rachel Wiberg, Ellyn Gordon and Stephanie Roman led the ‘Hogs.
