Music, Programs Set At Love & Knishes Lunches
SOUTHBURY â All area seniors are invited to enjoy lunch and entertainment on Tuesdays during January at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program of the Federation-Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut. The programs take place in the social hall at Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North.
The food is freshly prepared each week by Chef Nancy Stokes and features healthful, delicious menus. Lunch is served at noon and programs start at 1 pm. The following programs are featured for this month:
On January 4, âHot Jazz for a Cold Afternoonâ features pianist Roger Young, who will make the room sizzle with his interpretations of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and others. Mr Young also honors requests for classical music and popular tunes, too.
The January 11 program is a double-header, with a brief talk by registered dietician Judy Prager on the top ten foods and then Bingo games for gelt.
Singer/guitarist Larry Ayce returns on January 18 to perform ballads, love songs, country music, and audience requests. This velvet-voiced crooner was a big hit last summer and is back by popular demand.
The January 25 program features a unique experience, a Tu BâShevat Seder with Rabbi Eric Polokoff of Bânai Israel. Friends of all faiths are welcome to join in a beautiful and delicious ceremony and lunch that celebrates the holiday of the New Year of the Trees.
Lunch reservations should be made by Thursday for the following week. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested donation of $5.50 for seniors. To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service program director, at 267-3177, ext 105. Snow cancellation messages will also be left at that number. Love & Knishes is sponsored by The Homesteads at Newtown, LLC.
