Fredric W. Gleason

Fredric W. Gleason, 79, husband of Eleanor (Hansen) Gleason of Castle Hill Road, Newtown, died December 17 in St Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury.

Mr Gleason was born in Lynn, Mass., on March 6, 1925, a son of the late Randolph and Wendla (Nelson) Gleason. He was raised and educated in Hingham, Mass., and was a graduate of Colgate University. During World War II he served in the US Army in Germany with Company B 275th Infantry Regiment and was for a time a POW.

A resident of Newtown since 1964, Fred was employed in real estate sales for 30 years, first for the Joseph Chase Agency, then for Mayer Real Estate Agency. He was a member of the Newtown Board of Realtors. Fred previously was a sales engineer for Wheaton Plastics for many years. He was an avid birder and was a member of the National Audubon Society.

In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Steven W. Gleason of Sandy Hook; a daughter, Bethany MacDonald of Avon, Maine; a brother, Randolph Gleason of Pembroke, Mass.; a sister, Bethany Marshall of New Mexico; six grandchildren, Rebecca O’Malley, Emily Lysaght, Christopher Gleason, Shawn Gleason, Courtney Gleason, and Douglas MacDonald; and two stepchildren, Jennifer and Mark Bruen. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marcia (Leathers) Gleason and a sister, June Robbins.

A memorial service will be held at the Walnut Hill Community Church, 156 Walnut Hill Road, Bethel, on January 4 at 3 pm. Burial will be in St John Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, Hingham, Mass., at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
