Newtown Conservation Commission is planning a special event for the first weekend of the new year.

An event for all ages, New Year’s Walk & Seed Bomb Launching Event is planned for Saturday, January 4, at 11 am, at High Meadow.

The public will have an opportunity to walk and talk with Conservation Commissioners to learn about the meadows and how they were transformed from hayfields to habitat for pollinators, birds and other wildlife.

Those who would like to participate should plan to meet at the cul-de-sac at the end of Keating Farms Avenue. The walk will take everyone up to High Meadow and then loop around the meadows.

The event will culminate with Native Seed Bomb Launching into the meadow.

Seed bomb kits can be obtained at the Conservation Commission’s table inside Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street. They will also be available at Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson Street, as of December 11.

Additional seed bombs will be available at the January 4 event for launching.

There is no rain/snow date. In the event of inclement weather call 203-426-4303.
