Audrey R. Martin, 84, of Danbury died December 20. A daughter of Dorothy Abbott Rappe and William Frederick Rappe, she was born in Manhattan, July 18, 1931.

She retired from Grolier Publishing in 1996, then held positions including supervisor for CACD Energy Assistance program in Danbury, and receptionist for both the Newtown Senior Center and the Danbury Senior Center.

She served on the New Fairfield Democratic Town Committee, was leader of her daughters’ Girl Scout troop, a reader and driver for the National Federation of the Blind, Connecticut Chapter, and volunteered for the Red Cross. At the New Fairfield Methodist Church, the Martins started the tradition of “Carols and Scripture” worship service on Christmas Eve. She was also a board member of the Women’s Center of Greater Danbury and worked for a time at the Danbury Hospital and for the New Fairfield school system. She will be remembered as a fun and loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt.

Five children and their spouses, Pamela Martin Waugh, Peter B. and Josephine Martin, Deidre Martin Sommerer, William J. Martin III and Jennifer, and Kyle A. and Marisa Martin; grandchildren Derek and Kelly Martin, Hillary Waugh Bruce, Samantha and Jonathan Sommerer, and Madeline and Hallie Martin; and two great-grandchildren survive Mrs Martin. A sister, Jean Ann Rappe Morris, and her ex-husband, William Martin, predeceased her.
