Newtown High School’s boys’ swimming and diving team defeated Masuk of Monroe on December 22, and the basketball, hockey, and wrestling teams all had competitions on December 23 before taking a break for the holidays.

In other hardwood action, the boys’ cagers went to Trumbull and took the Eagles to overtime before falling 84-79.

On the ice, the hockey team also suffered extra time defeat. The Nighthawks hosted Stamford at Danbury Ice Arena, overcame an early 3-0 deficit, but fell 6-5 in OT. Scott McLean had two goals and an assist, Dom Cartelli and Sean Ferris both scored and assisted on goals, and Lucas O’Brien also hit the back of the net. Matt Pelisson had a pair of assists, and Jack Hanley added a helper for the Nighthawks.

Newtown’s wrestling team came out on top with a 42-27 triumph on the road against Bristol Eastern.

Games resume on December 27 when the boys’ basketball team participates in the Wilton Holiday Tournament and the NHS grapplers compete in the Danbury Holiday Tournament.
