Weapon/DUI Charges

Police report that at about 2:47 pm on December 14, they stopped motorist William M. Kundert III, 28, of 216 South Main Street, who was traveling on South Main Street near its intersection with Homestead Lane, to investigate.

Police said they charged Kundert with possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle. Police said the weapon in Kundert’s possession was a knife that had a set of brass knuckles attached to it.

Police said they released Kundert on $500 bail for a January 5 appearance at Danbury Superior Court.

Additionally, police said that they charged Catherine Brennan, 20, of Milford with failure to maintain proper insurance on a motor vehicle. Brennan is the owner of the vehicle that Kundert was driving when he was stopped, police said. Brennan was released for a January 5 court appearance, police said.

In a separate matter four days later, at about 12:43 pm on December 18, police said they stopped a 2000 Nissan Maxima sedan that Kundert was driving northward on South Main Street, near its intersection with Bryan Lane.

Kundert then failed field sobriety tests, police said, adding that they charged Kundert with driving under the influence and with driving a vehicle with a suspended registration.

Following processing, police released Kundert on $5,000 bail for a Jan 5 court appearance.

Currituck Road

Police said that while on patrol about 11:11 am on December 14, they spotted motorist Richard Adams, 48, of New Milford, driving on Currituck Road, near Gopher Road, without wearing a seatbelt, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Adams with failure to wear a seatbelt and with driving with a suspended license. Police released Adams $100 bail for a Dec 27 court appearance.

Cellphone

Police report that at about 1:30 pm on December 14, they spotted motorist Joseph Bateman, 20, of Danbury, speaking on a handheld cellphone while driving near 3 Main Street, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police charged Bateman with illegal use of a handheld cellphone while driving and with driving with a suspended license. Bateman was released for a December 22 court appearance, police said.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Barbara Hill-Young, 51, of 16 Sweetbriar Lane went to the police station about 8 am on December 15 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, an offense that stems from original July 2001 motor vehicle charges of driving with improper tail lamps and driving under suspension, police report.

Police said they transported Hill-Young to court that day for an arraignment.

South Main Street

A two-vehicle accident occurred near 63 South Main Street about 5 pm on December 14.

Police said motorist Richard Callanan, 46, of Southbury was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV southward and then slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Chevrolet was struck from behind by southbound motorist Jacqueline Wall, 17, of Southbury, who was driving a 1994 Ford Escort.

Both drivers reported pain and both were transported by ambulance to Danbury Hospital, police said.

Police said Wall received an infraction ticket on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and also on failure to carry a valid automotive insurance identification card.

Bridle Path DUI

Police said that they responded to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle present in the Bridle Path Trail neighborhood at about 2:19 am on December 16.

Police said they found that motorist Scott Bierce, Jr, 21, of 9 Loveland Drive was asleep inside his running vehicle, after which they charged him with driving under the influence.

After processing the case, police released Bierce on $100 bail for a January 5 court appearance.

Sandy Hook

While on patrol about 7 am on December 15, police said they stopped motorist Sally Koegler, 30, of 53 Hilldale Drive to investigate near the intersection of Riverside Road and Philo Curtis Road.

That investigation resulted in Koegler being charged with traveling unreasonably fast, driving under suspension, and driving without automotive insurance, police said.

Koegler was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 5, police report.

Hundred Acres DUI

Police report they responded about 11:53 pm on December 15 to investigate a motor vehicle incident that occurred at Hundred Acres Road.

Police said their investigation determined that Kristen Hammar, 42, of 17 Phyllis Lane was the driver of a vehicle involved in a one-car accident on Hundred Acres Road. Police said they then charged Hammar with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn.

After processing, police said they released Hammar on $100 bail for a Jan 4 court appearance.

 

Warrant

Police report that they stopped motorist Alexa Larsen, 44, of 123 Lakeview Terrace for driving without her headlamps on at Wasserman Way near Trades Lane about 7:20 pm on Dec 17.

Police added that after stopping the vehicle, they learned that there was an arrest warrant pending against Larsen. Thus, police charged Larsen with second-degree failure to appear in court stemming from initial charges of first-degree criminal trespassing and driving an unregistered motor vehicle.

Police said they held Larsen on $1,500 bail for a court appearance.

Five Charges

While on patrol at about 4:50 pm on December 17, police said they stopped motorist Joseph Alarcon, 24, of Monroe for driving too fast on Botsford Hill Road, near Dusty Lane.

Police said they brought in a police dog to aid in their investigation into whether any illicit drugs were present in the vehicle driven by Alarcon.

 Police said they charged Alarcon with traveling too fast, failure to carry a driver’s license, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a prescription drug not in its original container.

Following arrest processing, police released Alarcon on $1,000 bail for a January 5 court appearance.

South Main DUI

Police report that at about 12:16 am on December 19, they spotted motorist Jessica Guay, 30, of 19 Indian Lane driving a vehicle erratically near 71 South Main Street, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police said they charged Guay with driving under the influence and with failure to drive to the right. Following processing, Guay was released on $100 bail for a Jan 5 court appearance.

Church Hill Collision

Motorist Diane Rand, 67, of 1 Honey Lane, who was driving a 2011 GMC Terrain SUV eastward near 46 Church Hill Road at about 11:58 am on December 18, slowed to a stop for traffic conditions, after which the GMC was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Karen Rojeski, 57, of 52 Osborn Hill Road, who was driving a 2007 Ford Mustang, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Rojeski for following too closely.

Three MV Charges

At about 7:20 pm on December 18, police stopped motorist Michael Bergin, 33, of Danbury to investigate on Wasserman Way, near its intersection with Trades Lane.

That probe resulted in charges against Bergin of failure to display a marker plate, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving with a suspended license, police said.

Police released Bergin on a written promise to appear in court on January 4.

Queen Street

 Police said that while on patrol about 10 pm on December 17, they saw motorist Kenneth Kowalski, 48, of 3 Sunny View Terrace make a motor vehicle violation near 6 Queen Street, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they then learned that there was an arrest warrant pending against Kowalski, resulting in his being charged him with second-degree failure to appear in court stemming from an initial charge of sixth-degree larceny.

Police released Kowalski on $1,000 bail for a January 4 court appearance.

NHS Weapon/Drugs

At about 11:30 am on December 16, Newtown High School officials learned that a student there might be in possession of a stun gun, so school officials informed the police’s school resource officer of the matter, police report.

Police said an investigation determined that the student possessed a stun gun and some marijuana.

Police arrested the student on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

Following arrest processing, police released the student on a written promise to appear in court on January 9. Because the arrested youth is under age 18, his/her identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

Hawleyville Accident

Motorist Richard Nigro, 34, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Pocono Road, about 12:30 pm on December 17, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Natalie Bycenski, 32, of Oxford, who was driving a 2011 Subaru Outback station wagon, police report.

Nigro complained of minor injuries, but refused medical attention, police said.

Police said they issued Bycenski an infraction for following too closely. Police said Nigro received an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Exit 11 Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp at about 2:36 pm on December 14.

State police said that a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Michael Testa, 36, of Fairfield, struck the rear end of a 2010 Subaru Outback driven by Kathleen Martin, 61, of Shelton.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Highway Accident

At about 10 am on December 12, a two-vehicle accident occurred on westbound Interstate 84, about 6,000 feet west of Exit 10, according to state police.

During heavy, slow-moving traffic, a 2003 Toyota Highlander SUV driven by David Cooper, 56, of 12 Willow Brook Lane, struck the rear end of a 2011 Lexus ES-350 sedan driven by Joyce Skowronski, 68, of 26 Housatonic Drive, state police said.

There were no injuries. Cooper received an infraction for following too closely, state police said.

Dodge Vs Jeep

Police report that at about 5 pm on December 19, motorist Ajredin Islami, 41, of Bethel, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Stratus sedan, was attempting to make left turn from I-84’s Exit 11 commuter parking lot to head westward on Wasserman Way, as motorist Stephen Mais, 17, of 2 Cornfield Ridge Rd was driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Wasserman Way.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Islami a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Warrant

Police report that after he learned that they held a warrant for his arrest, a youth under age 18 turned himself over to police at the police station on December 20 and was charged with evading responsibility, unsafe passing, and with violating passenger restrictions for 16/17-year-old drivers.

Police said the charges stem from a motor vehicle accident that occurred on November 23 near the intersection of South Main St and Button Shop Rd.

Following arrest processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear in court on January 9. Police did not disclose the boy’s identity because he is under age 18.

 

Vandalism Spree

Police said that someone vandalized multiple curbside residential mailboxes near the intersection of Merlin’s Lane and Arthur’s Court at the Camelot residential subdivision off Hattertown Road sometime overnight on December 19/20.

Investigating Patrol Officer Scott Smith asks anyone with knowledge of the crimes to contact him at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Honda Vs Toyota

Police report that motorist James Solomon, 44, of 14 Saw Mill Ridge Road was driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla sedan eastward on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road, about 12:49 pm on December 17 and then slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Toyota was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Ryan Kleinert, 17, of 60 Engleside Terrace, who was driving a 2006 Honda CRV SUV.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kleinert an infraction for following too closely and for violating passenger restrictions on young drivers. The Honda carried two passengers, police said.

NHS Lot

Police report a two-vehicle accident in the parking lot at Newtown High School about 2:30 pm on December 19.

In that incident, northbound motorist Nicole Davis, 17, of 23 Charter Ridge, who was driving a 2005 Honda Accord sedan, stopped for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by northbound motorist Kevin LeBlanc, 17, of 6 Oak Ridge Drive, who was driving a 2004 Volvo XC-90 station wagon, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they took no enforcement.

Hawleyville Accident

Police report that motorist Alex Lamere, 20, of Brookfield was driving a 1992 Buick sedan southward on Tower Road at about 3:45 am on December 18 and then went through a stop sign at that street’s intersection with Obtuse Road, after which the auto struck a tree near 8 Obtuse Road.

Police said that firefighters extricated Lamere from the crashed auto. Hawleyville and Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the incident.

Police said that Lamere and Buick passengers Mike Norman, 20, and BJ Oberndorfer, 21, both of Brookfield, were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Police said the accident is under investigation.

 

Truck Vs Building

At about 10:43 am on December 9, motorist Orlando Fajardo, 34, of Danbury was driving a 1996 Toyota pickup truck southward on South Main Street and was preparing to make a right turn onto Meadowbrook Road, when southbound motorist Michael Carrafiello, 18, of 83 Sugar Street, who was driving a 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck, attempted to pass the Toyota on the right, police report.

The two trucks collided and then the Chevrolet continued onward, striking Swanky Franks of Newtown, a restaurant at 314 South Main Street.

There were no injuries. Botsford firefighters responded to the accident. Carrafiello received an infraction for illegal passing on the right, according to police. Fajardo received an infraction for driving without a license, police report.

Moving Violations

Police said they stopped motorist Evan Smith, 29, of Danbury on Berkshire Road near Pole Bridge Road about 1:45 am on December 22 to investigate because Smith’s rear marker plate was not illuminated.

Police said they charged Smith with failure to have a rear marker plate illuminated and with driving with a suspended license. Police said they released Smith on $100 bail for a January 5 court appearance.

Also, Newtown police said they turned over Smith to Danbury police who held a warrant on him.

South Main Collision

Police Officer Matthew Wood, 36, was driving a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria police car northward near 317 South Main Street about 12:18 am on December 21, when a deer ran out onto the roadway, police said. Wood braked to avoid an accident, but the sedan and the deer collided, police said. Wood was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Poverty Hollow

About 4:51 pm on December 21, motorist Alexander Tolnay, 40, of Norwalk was driving a 2007 Ford Edge SUV northward near 73 Poverty Hollow Road, when a deer ran onto the street, resulting in a collision, police said. Tolnay was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Intersection Accident

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the four-way intersection of Hattertown Road, Key Rock Road, and Poverty Hollow Road about 5:17 pm on December 21.

The accident involved motorist Marissa Novotny, 29, of 18-B Philo Curtis Road, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Murano SUV, and motorist Kenneth Rubin, 41, of 22 Hi Barlow Road, who was driving a 2006 Subaru Impreza sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Novotny a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.
