Newtown Youth Wrestlers Score In New Milford Tourney
The Newtown Youth Wrestling Association (NYWA) recently competed in the New Milford Kickoff Classic with 27 wrestlers getting mat time between the elementary and middle school squads. NYWA was well-represented at the winnersâ table having garnered 18 medals overall.
The morning session started with the younger squad showing quickness and strength. Gathering gold were Luca Manfredi, Michael Carpenter, and Luke Wellman all of whom went 4-0 with one pin apiece. Evan Rooney and William Henkel each placed with silver, and Zach Robinson and Steven Leuci came home with bronze medals. Robinson wrestled particularly well, going 3-2 with three pins.
The second session saw the older wrestlers fare even better as they highlighted their day with three gold medals. First place finishers Edward Lovely, Andy Hubina, and Andrei Steinjann each went 3-0 with two pins. Earning silver medals for the NYWA grapplers were Chris Lajoie, Dylan Bartlett (2-1 with two pins), Chris Manfredi, and Sean Arnold. Other medal winners were Alexander Stavola, Adrian Decola, Gren Paynter (2-2 with a pin), and Justin Bogdanoff who each of whom earned bronze medals for their efforts.
The NYWA holds its practice sessions Mondays and Wednesdays from 6-8 pm for the middle school squad in the Sandy Hook gym and 6:30-8 pm for the elementary school squad in Sandy Hook cafeteria. Thursday nights are competition nights.
