Santa Claus And TOPS Members Bring Smiles To Ashlarâs Residents
Members of the Newtown TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) Chapter 184 visited Ashlar of Newtown on December 14 to spread cheer among the residents.
There were surprises, smiles, and tears of happiness as Santa, elves, and members gave out gifts of teddy bears, lap quilts, socks, and a few other items. Among those on hand to present these items were Susan and Bruce Tompkins. Susan donated more than 100 bears and the response was amazing, according to TOPS leader Betty Presnell.
âAs we went thru Ashlar, singing carols and giving from the hearts, some of the residents were already talking to their ânew buddiesâ and the air was filled with excitement,â Ms Presnell said. âDave â a friend of Sue and Bruceâs â also came along with a white beard (real) and a Santa hat and bells.â
Krista Judson, Linda Long, and Aida Reiske were dressed as elves.
âThey know how to make a party and to make each resident feel special,â Ms Presnell said. âEach went into a room and delivered a gift and spoke to the folks that were there; we all came away with a great feeling of satisfaction.â
Co-leader Richard Merrill also was there to hand out gifts and hugs.
âRichard did manage to get someone to take something [who] otherwise did not want anything...And a special little lady there touched Richardâs heart by accepting a bear from him,â Ms Presnell said.â
âThanks to all who gave a gift or gifts. We are so blessed to have caring folks in our midst,â she said. âSome of the smaller items were left as prizes for their Bingo, and to be given out at the hands of Betty Naylor and her assistant, Lynne. We had a fun time and Betty and Lynne went with us through all the floors and rooms to make sure each received a gift.â
