MV Cases
Police arrested a New Milford resident on two warrants on December 14, lodging ten violations stemming from two past motor vehicle incidents.
Police said they charged Stacy McCaffrey, 29, with two counts each of failure to appear in court, driving while under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, and misuse of marker plates. Police also charged McCaffrey with one count each of failure to have a marker plate and failure to have automotive insurance.
McCaffrey was held on $1,000 bail for a December 15 court appearance, police said.
MV Incident
On December 12, police charged Angelo Rivera, 20, of Derby with driving while under suspension, making a restricted turn, and possession of alcohol in a motor vehicle by an underage person. Details on the incident were not available. Police released Rivera for a December 21 court appearance.
DUI Charge
Police said motorist Brian C. Maklary, 35, of 274 South Main Street was seen driving a 1987 GMC pickup truck erratically northward on Elm Drive about 2:38 am December 17.
Police said they stopped Maklary and investigated, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and making a restricted turn.
After processing the arrest, police released Maklary on $250 bail for a January 4 court appearance.
DUI Arrest
On the night of December 15, motorist Cordell Woolfolk, 27, of Bridgeport was driving a vehicle southward on South Main Street, when he struck the rear end of another vehicle at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road, police report.
 Woolfolk then continued driving southward on South Main Street, police said. Woolfolk lost control of his vehicle, went off the road at 220 South Main Street and then left the area on foot, police said. Police caught Woolfolk at Sand Hill Plaza.
Police arrested Woolfolk on charges of driving under the influence, evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, following too closely, and misuse of marker plates. Police held Woolfolk on $10,000 bail for a December 16 court arraignment.
Moving Violations
On the afternoon of December 16, motorist Ozzy Khamsouk, 16, of Torrington, who was driving a 1990 Chevrolet Lumina on Old Mill Road, lost control of the vehicle and struck a stop sign at the intersection of Old Mill Road and Berkshire Road, police said.
Khamsouk allegedly drove away from the accident without stopping, police said. Khamsouk was later located at Newtown High School and charged with evading responsibility, driving without a license, and making a restricted turn, police said. Khamsouk is scheduled for a January 4 court appearance.
DUI Arrest
Police report that on December 16 they arrested Thomas Guglielmi, 30, of 20 Gelding Hill Road on a warrant, charging him with driving under the influence in connection with a July 28 accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Old Mill Road.
In that accident, early on the morning of July 28, Guglielmi was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry on Berkshire Road, when the auto went off the right road shoulder, struck an embankment, rolled over onto its roof.
Police said they released Guglielmi on $1,000 bail for a January 3 court appearance.
Vandalism/Theft
Police said that sometime between noon and 3:30 pm on December 15, someone smashed in the front passenger windows on two vehicles parked in the rear parking lot at The Red Brick Tavern at 1 Glen Road, stealing a stereo and other items. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the crime to contact patrol Officer Andrew Stinson at 426-5841.
Mercury Vs Nissan
About 2:27 pm December 16, motorist Katie Rose Crevier, 17, of 19 Scudder Road, who was driving a 1996 Mercury Sable, was exiting the Newtown High School driveway at Berkshire Road, police said. At that time, a 1999 Nissan Maxima driven by Michelle Kean, 29, of Naugatuck was heading eastward on Berkshire Road, police said. The Mercury and the Nissan collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Crevier a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Honda Vs Nissan
Motorist Bruce Allen, Jr, 54, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2005 Nisan Pathfinder, stopped for a red traffic signal on eastbound Route 302 at about 2:48 pm December 14, police report. Motorist Katherine Sasanoff, 55, of 150 Louis Hill Road, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord, stopped behind the Nissan, police said.
When the signal turned green, the Honda moved forward and struck the rear end of the Nissan, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Sasanoff a written warning for following too closely.
SUV Vs SUV
About 8:05 am December 14, motorist John Kostecki, 20, of 11 Founders Lane, who was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee northward on Philo Curtis Road, crossed into the southbound lane and struck motorist Gary Seri, 41, of 32 Jeremiah Road, who was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said Kostecki told them he could not clearly see through an ice-covered windshield on the Jeep. Police issued Kostecki an infraction ticket for failure to keep to the right.
Slippery Road
Motorist Joseph Barranca, 34, of 31 Old Farm Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 BMW X-5, was headed northward on Old Farm Hill Road about 8:37 am December 16, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck an electrical transformer alongside the road, police said. Firefighters and electric utility crews went to the scene. Barranca was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Highlander Mishap
Motorist Maureen Boyle, 58, of 6 Far Horizon Drive, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Highlander westward on Jeremiah Road, near Fox Hollow Lane, about 12:25 pm December 15, lost control of the vehicle and got stuck in snow, police said. While attempting to get free, the Toyota struck a tree, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Boyle a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Great Ring Crash
About 9:56 pm December 16, motorist Robert Piro, 22, of Monroe was driving a 2005 Nissan Frontier southward on Great Ring Road, when he encountered icy pavement, lost control and struck some guardrailing, police said.
Piro was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Boggs Hill Accident
Motorist Erin Clark, 17, of 4 Steck Drive, who was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry northward on Boggs Hill Road about 8:20 pm December 16, lost control on icy pavement, crossed the road and struck a utility pole, police said. Clark was not injured in the mishap, police report.Â
School Bus Crash
Motorist Susan Kretz, 40, of 5 Canterbury Lane, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder, was stopped at a stop sign on Dickenson Drive at its intersection with Riverside Road about 3:30 pm December 13, police report.
In making a left turn from Riverside Road onto Dickenson Drive, school bus driver Kathy Smith, 50, of 11 Elana Lane, struck the Nissan police said. The bus carried no passengers, police said.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Smith for making a restricted turn.
Castle Meadow Crash
About 7:45 pm December 16, motorist Michael Lapera, 20, of 214 Hattertown Road, who was driving a 1989 Honda Prelude northward on Castle Meadow Road, encountered an icy road surface, lost control, went off the road and struck a tree, police report.
Lapera was not injured. Police verbally warned him for making a restricted turn.
South Main Collision
Motorist Deborah Montelli, 30, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2004 BMW X-3, was attempting to pull out from a driveway at 286 South Main Street, when the BMW collided with a southbound 2001 Toyota Tercel driven by Vijay Kumar Kananarasimha, 26, of Naugatuck, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Montelli a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Home Improvement
On the morning of December 19, police arrested Louis Lombardo, 50, of Patterson, N.Y., on a warrant listing the charge of failure to refund payment for home improvements within ten days of a written request, police said. After processing, police released Lombardo on $10,000 bail for a January 5 court appearance.Â
Hawleyville Accident
Police report at two-vehicle accident at the Exit 9 off-ramp of Interstate 84 in Hawleyville about 2:20 pm December 13.
Motorist Elizabeth Fellenstein, 45, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2000 Lincoln Town Car, struck the rear end of a 2000 Hyundai Elantra driven by Danieri Sorio, 33, of Danbury, police said.
There were no injuries. Fellenstein received a written warning for driving an unreasonable distance apart. Sorio received an infraction ticket for driving without a license.
Mt Pleasant Road
Motorist Rinaben Shah, 36, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Honda Accord northward on Mt Pleasant Road about 9:25 pm December 16, encountered icy pavement, went out of control, and struck a tree near 44 Mt Pleasant Road, police report. Shah was not injured.
Jeep Collision
At about 9:45 pm December 15, motorist Rebecca Cash, 17, of 9 Saw Mill Road, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee northward on Boggs Hill Road, lost control of the vehicle on an icy surface and struck a tree near 145 Boggs Hill Road, police said. Cash was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Volvo Vs Acura
At about 9:35 pm December 15, motorist Shauna Smith, 17, of 6 Washbrook Road, who was driving a 1994 Volvo 850, and motorist Julia McNulty, 23, of 8 Settlers Lane, who was driving a 2006 Acura NSX, were involved in a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Meadow Brook Road and Pine Tree Hill Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Smith received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Trailer
Motorist Estaban Pereira, 49, of Monroe was driving a 2005 Jeep Liberty, which was hauling a trailer, at about 7:15 pm December 16 on High Bridge Road, near Avalon Way, police said.
The trailer jackknifed on the icy roadway and then hit a tree, police said. Pereira was not injured. Pereira was verbally warned for traveling too fast for conditions.
I-84 DUI
State police report that at about 11:22 pm December 11, they pulled over motorist Yanessa Abba, 18, of Danbury for erratic driving at the Exit 9 interchange of Interstate 84.
State police charged Abba with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and failure to signal a turn. After processing, state police released Abba on $500 bail for a January 9 court appearance.
South Main Collision
About 1:17 pm December 16, motorist Timothy Geary, 44, of Bethel, who was driving a 1990 Ford Econoline van, was exiting a parking area at 71 South Main Street, police said.
At that time, motorist Maris Boyd, 60, of Woodbury was driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra northward on South Main Street, police said.
The Ford and Hyundai then collided, police said. Firefighters responded. Ambulance volunteers transported Boyd to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries. Police issued Geary an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.
Buick Vs Deer
Motorist Linda Mulholland, 59, of 21 Russett Road was driving a 2005 Buick Park Avenue on Wasserman Way about 8:50 pm December 20, when a deer ran onto the road and collided with the vehicle, police said. Mulholland was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Tanker Vs SUV
A home heating fuel delivery truck backed into a sport-utility vehicle on a residential driveway about 1:15 pm December 20.
Police said trucker Agustin Cruz, Jr, 26, of Bridgeport, who was driving a tanker truck for Standard Oil of Connecticut, was backing up on a driveway at 41 West Street, when he backed into the front end of a stopped 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kathleen Tramontozzi, 42, of 15 Tamarack Road.
Tramontozzi was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Newtown Hook & Ladder firefighters responded. Police took no enforcement.
Hawleyville Mishap
Motorist Maura Ferraz, 40, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Ford Focus sedan southward on Hawleyville Road about 3 pm December 21, stopped and was waiting to make a left turn onto eastbound Interstate 84âs Exit 9 on-ramp, when the Ford was struck from behind by southbound motorist Yoshiji Akiyama, 55, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan minivan, police report.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Ford passenger Bruna Metckee, 18, of Danbury to Danbury Hospital to be checked for injuries, police said. Police issued Akiyama an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
