Two Youths Charged With South Main Street Thefts
Police arrested two youths on South Main Street late on the night of December 16, after they were spotted inside a vehicle driving along that road and allegedly stealing items as they traveled.
Police said they saw an Audi A-4 parked in the northbound travel lane, with its passenger door, open near The Clock Shop at 115 South Main Street at about 11:40 pm. Because the matter was suspicious, police stopped the auto and learned that some items inside the vehicle had been stolen from points along South Main Street, they said.
Those items included a sign that had been stolen from The Clock Shop property and an exterior rear-view mirror that had been stolen from a Volkswagen GTI, which was positioned for sale alongside northbound South Main Street, near Bryan Lane.
Police arrested Zachary Burany, 18, of Shelton on one count of third-degree criminal mischief, and two counts each of sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy. Burany was released for a January 3 court appearance.
Police arrested an unidentified 17-year-old male on a total of eight charges. They are third-degree criminal mischief, forgery, possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two counts each of sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy. The youth is scheduled for a January 5 court appearance. Because the youth is under age 18, his identity is shielded from public disclosure by state law.
