The Christmas Tree Glow
To the Editor:
Once again, the town Christmas tree is glowing in the corner of Ram Pasture. The tree lighting night, with its hundreds of luminaria aglow in the pasture and on nearby streets, is an evening in our collective memory. We wonât let that memory fade without recognizing some of the people who made the 2006 Tree Lighting and Luminaria possible.
As always, thanks galore to Curtis Packaging Corp for providing all the luminaria boxes and to the Chamber of Commerce for funding the tree and its special evening. Thanks to Rob McCullough and Steve Carmichael for checking and replacing bulbs as needed; to volunteers who counted, packed, called, and delivered; to the parks crew who braved high winds and frigid temperatures to position hundreds of luminaria that morning; to all residents who faithfully positioned luminaria in front of their homes and volunteers who lighted luminaria in the pasture that evening; to Union Savings Bank for the donuts and Peopleâs Bank for the hot drinks; to Newtown Hardware for candles and the Gellerts for candy canes; to Mr and Mrs Claus for their presence; to John Harned and the Newtown High School Singers for a pitch-perfect a cappella performance with sing-along for all; to the armed services men and women of Newtown for whom our tree lighting was dedicated; to the many wonderful volunteers of our town represented that evening by Marg Studley, Colleen Honan, and Gordon Williams; to Boy Scout Troop 70 and the Leo Club for their spotless cleanup the day after. Our grateful appreciation to you all!
