In Lieu of Flowers Program to Benefit Kevin’s Community Center

Kevin’s Community Center (KCC), Newtown’s nonprofit free medical clinic providing services to uninsured and underinsured residents, announced that it has launched a unique gift donation campaign. The “In Lieu of Flowers” program is a way for those in the greater Newtown area to support their community, honor their sick or deceased friends and family, while giving a holiday or other special event gift that makes a difference.

“Today, more than ever, people are making financial donations in lieu of flowers. Financial gifts offer someone the opportunity to help others in the community,” said Z. Michael Taweh MD, Founder of Kevin’s Community Center. “People in our area care deeply about Newtown and its residents. In our first three years of operations, the clinic has served 1,000-plus patient visits and has provided more than $1,000,000 in medical services.

“Making a tax-deductible donation to our organization will allow us to continue to help those in our area who have no other reasonable options when it comes to obtaining healthcare services. We can continue to build a healthy community,” Dr Taweh added.

KCC was founded in 2002 by Dr Taweh and his wife, Jocelyn, in memory of their son Kevin who lost his life in a tragic household accident.

The clinic is staffed by volunteer physicians and nurses along with a corps of very talented volunteers who have made quality medical care accessible to those who need it the most. KCC depends heavily upon the financial support of the community in order to fund the cost of operating the clinic.

The “In Lieu of Flowers” donation pledge cards are available at the C.H. Booth Library; Newtown Savings Bank; Honan’s Funeral Home, and from Ed and Nancy Belanger by calling 203-426-3292.
