Guest Speakers, New Members For Lions Club

The Lions Club of Newtown welcomed two guest speakers and inducted three new members during its most recent meeting.

Marinus De Jungh, president of the Connecticut Lions Low Vision Center, was one of the guest speakers. Mr De Jungh discussed the Low Vision Center’s mission and work, pointing out that most of the organization’s clients are over the age of 60 and who, while still active, independent, and vibrant people, have sustained a significant vision loss and must find new ways of doing both necessary and favorite activities.

Joseph A Poirier, District 23a governor, Connecticut, also spoke at the meeting. Mr Poirier has been a member of the Beacon Falls Lions Club for 16 years serving in many leadership positions and as president in 1996-97.

The Lions also welcomed three new members to the club.

Jim Wallace has lived in Connecticut for most of has life and in Newtown for the last few years. Jim and his wife, Linda, are proud parents of three sons.

Alexander Fraser, another new Lion, has two grown children. An information technologies manager for 47 years at Vitramon, he spent four of those years as manager of Kelgraph. At one time he was also the president of Monroe Chamber of Commerce.

Kerry Brosnan and his wife, Andrea, were looking for a home with some land in a town that offered enough amenities but still have a country feel, which they found in Newtown. The Kerrys have two children, Olivia, age 5, and Leo, 3.
