Christmas Hut Open At Abbey

BETHLEHEM — Christmas shopping at the Abbey of Regina Laudis’ Monastic Art Shop and Christmas Hut will continue through January 6. The Christmas Hut has trees, wreaths, creches, cookies and gifts.

The art shop is open year-round and regularly offers crafts and food items including pottery, candles, woven and knitted goods, wool from the abbey’s sheep, cheese, honey, vinegar, herbs for seasonings, hot mustard, perfumes and skin creams, cards, books, medals and other religious art objects, plus stone sculptures which are suitable for birdbaths, flowers or centerpieces.

The Lauren Ford Creche is on display this season. The Neapolitan Crèche is still under extensive renovation, with plans for a Christmas 2007 display.

The Monastic Art Shop is located near the main entrance to the Abbey, on Flanders Road between Route 6 and Route 61. Hours are generally Thursday through Tuesday from 10 am to noon and 1:30 to 4:30; call 203-266-7637 for additional information or to confirm in advance that the shop is open before visiting.
