Charles A. Calderara

And Life Scout

Charles A. Calderara, 82, husband of Mary (Parabello) Calderara of Newtown, died December 7 in Danbury Hospital. He was born in Jersey City, N.J. on June 8, 1924, a son of Theodore and Carrie (Bosisio) Calderara.

In addition to his beloved wife of 57 years, Mr Calderara is survived by his son Bill Calderara and his wife, Patti, of Newtown; three grandchildren, Derek, Ryan, and Brenna Calderara, all of Newtown; a special niece, Janet Serrano of Virginia; and several other nieces and nephews.

Mr Calderara was a graduate of Isaac Young High School in New Rochelle, N.Y., and attended Iona College. He served his country with pride, honor, and distinction during World War II in the Army Air Corps, serving in the Asiatic Pacific with the 347th Air Service Group. He saw action on Iwo Jima and was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and World War II Victory Medal.

Prior to his retirement, Mr Calderara owned and operated TV Radio Hospital in New Rochelle, N.Y., an electronics business he ran for over 40 years. He and his wife lived in Mount Vernon before moving to Newtown in 1996 to live with his son and family. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was an avid reader, fisherman, boater, and runner, covering up to eight miles a day well into his 60s. He was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 22 in Mount Vernon and was a Life Scout.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated December 11 in St Rose of Lima Church. Interment will be private.

Arrangements were in care of the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown.
