Blood Drive Set For January 8

An American Red Cross blood drive will be held on Monday, January 8, from 8:30 am to 6:45 pm at the United Methodist Church, 94 Church Hill Road, in Sandy Hook.

Adverse weather conditions in Connecticut along with the annual holiday lull have combined to take their toll on the state’s blood supply, according to the Red Cross.

December blood collections in Connecticut have seen a slow and steady decline. To serve the needs of hospital patients, an average of 600 people must donate blood every weekday. But since December 1, the weekly average has fallen to 507 units.

Blood is needed for accident victims, patients with diseases like sickle cell anemia, cancer patients, and fire victims.

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in generally good health. To make an appointment to give blood, call 800/448-3543 (800/GIVE-LIFE).
