‘Songs Of The Glorious Season’ Performed By Newtown Choral Society
Newtown Choral Society presented “Songs of the Glorious Season” at Newtown Meeting House. Selections from Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria were featured on the December 14 program, as were traditional holiday songs and carols and an audience sing-along.
Mary Andreotta, who has been the director of the Newtown Choral Society since 1998, conducted the performance and directed the sing-along that served to close the concert. Audience members were invited to stand and sing “O, Come All Ye Faithful” and “Joy To The World,” following lyrics printed in their programs.
Phil Crevier accompanied the choir. Crevier has been the organist and pianist at Newtown Congregational Church for 27 years.
A chamber orchestra also accompanied the choir for its performance, which filled nearly every seat in the historic building.
Comments heard from audience members as they were leaving the performance included “That was absolutely remarkable,” “This has really put me in the holiday spirit,” and “What a superb performance.”
