DUI Incident

Police said that late on the night of December 11, they investigated a one-vehicle accident in which motorist Andrew Horowitz, 19, of Hamden was driving on Riverside Road, when his vehicle struck some guardrailing and then dug up a lawn at 199 Riverside Road.

Police said Horowitz left the scene of the accident and was found about 2,000 feet away.

After investigating, police charged Horowitz with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, and evading responsibility.

Horowitz was released from custody on $100 bail for a January 3 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

DUI Case

Late on the night of December 12, motorist Robert Fisher, 52, of 88 Castle Hill Road was stopped by police for a motor vehicle violation on Castle Hill Road, police report.

Following an investigation, police charged Fisher with driving under the influence and with a travel lane violation.

Police said that after Fisher posted $100 bail, they released him for a January 3 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police said they were dispatched on a report of an erratic driver traveling on Berkshire Road after 2 pm on December 11.

Police said they stopped the motorist in question at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane. The vehicle that the motorist was driving had one flat tire and also was missing one tire, police said.

After investigating, police charged motorist Stephen Quatrano, 42, of New Preston with driving under the influence, carrying a firearm while under the influence, reckless driving, and driving with unsafe tires.

Police said they held Quatrano on $1,000 bail for a December 12 court appearance.

Honda Vs Ford

About 4:45 pm December 11, motorist Russell Leake, 48, of Oxford, who was driving a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup truck southward on a wet South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, just south of Hawley Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Louis Roberts, 20, of Seymour, who was driving a 1991 Honda Accord, then skidded on the wet road and collided with the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Roberts failed to keep a reasonable distance apart.

Four Charges

Police report that following a domestic dispute at her residence, they arrested Sarah Lewis, 27, of 4 Shepaug Road on the morning of December 13, lodging charges of possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, third-degree assault, and disorderly conduct.

Police released Lewis on $250 bail for a December 14 court appearance.

Hawleyville Road

About 2:30 pm December 10, motorist Robert Holloway, 61, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2005 Hyundai Tucson southward on Hawleyville Road, stopped for a vehicle that was making a left turn, police said.

Southbound motorist Caitlyn Sincerbeaux, 20, of Bridgewater, who was driving a 1992 Volvo 740 station wagon, then struck the Hyundai from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Sincerbeaux for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Sandy Hook Crash

A two-car accident occurred about 12:45 pm December 9 at the busy intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road.

Police said the collision involved motorist Dana Elizabeth Aiello, 18, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris, and motorist Nancy DeCanio, 61, of 38 Gelding Hill Road, who was driving a 2005 Audi A-4 sedan. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Aiello an infraction ticket for following too closely.

Boulevard

About 6:40 pm December 16, motorist Eva Cerreta, 19, of 44 Bennetts Bridge Road was driving a 2006 Ford Mustang near 74 The Boulevard, when she lost control of the auto and struck some guardrailing alongside the road, police said. Cerreta was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Toyota Vs Ford

About 5 pm December 12, motorist William J. Parker, Jr, 34, of Violette Road, who was driving a 2003 Ford station wagon westward near 119 Berkshire Road, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Ford was struck from behind by westbound motorist Martha Mulski, 81, of Hamden, who was driving a 2000 Toyota sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Police gave Mulski a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Gas Station

Police said that at about 9:30 am December 13, they received a report of youths fighting at Buzz’s Mobil gas station at 286 South Main Street, so they went there to investigate.

Police said they determined that Kirk Andersen, 24, of 55 Capitol Drive was the primary aggressor in the incident.

Police said they stopped Andersen a short distance from the gas station and then charged him with breach of peace. After he posted $2,500 bail, police released him for a January 2 court appearance. 

 

Huntingtown Road

While traveling northward on the icy pavement near 24 Huntingtown Road on December 10, motorist Oscar Albarado, 41, of New Milford was driving a 2000 Mazda pickup truck that went out of control on the slippery road, police said.

The truck climbed an embankment and then rolled onto its right side, police said. Neither Albarado nor a passenger were injured. Police issued Albarado infractions for traveling too fast for conditions and for driving without a license.

Church Hill Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Church Hill Road at its intersection with eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 off-ramp about 5:30 pm December 12.

In that incident, motorist Anne Amadon, 47, of Skowhegan, Maine, drove a 2004 Ford station wagon westward on Church Hill Road through a traffic signal that had turned red and collided with motorist Arthur Tournas, 55, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet coupe, which was making a left turn on a green signal from the off-ramp onto westbound Church Hill Road, police said. 

There were no injuries. Amadon received an infraction for a traffic signal violation, and Tournas received an infraction for an automotive insurance violation, police said.

Volvo Vs Audi

About 12:40 pm December 15, motorist Daniel Keane, 22, of 20 Old Green Road, who was driving a 2001 Audi A-4 sedan, stopped at a red traffic signal on Church Hill Road, after which the Audi was struck from behind a 2006 Volvo XC-70 station wagon driven by Jack Belmuth, 47, of 14 Horseshoe Ridge Road, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Keane to Danbury Hospital to be checked for neck pain, police said. Police gave Belmuth a written warning for following too closely.

Road Rage

State police said they charged three men late on the night of December 12 in connection with a road rage incident that occurred on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11.

State police did not provide details on the incident itself.

State police charged Matthew Smarrella, 19, of 52 Philo Curtis Road on infractions for failure to drive in the established lane and for use of unauthorized lights.

They issued Anthony Novella, 40, of Southbury an infraction on the charge of following too closely.

Also, state police charged Alexander Dahlemeyer, 18, of 15 Sunnyview Terrace with disorderly conduct. They released Dahlemeyer on a written promise to appear in court on January 7.

Wanted Man

State police said that motorist Acxel Polanco, 25, of Meriden was involved in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 84, between Exits 9 and 10, about 6:43 pm December 10.

On investigating, state police learned that Meriden police wanted Polanco on an outstanding charge of violation of protective order, so state police took Polanco into custody.

Polanco was held on $75,000 bail for a December 11 appearance in Meriden Superior Court, state police said.

DUI Charge

State police said that at about 5:38 pm on December 14, motorist Christopher Gauvin, 23, of Oakville, who was driving a 1999 Toyota Corolla eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, drove off the road and struck some guardrailing along the right road shoulder. Gauvin was not injured.

After investigating, state police charged Gauvin with driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, and failure to drive in the established lane.

Gauvin posted $500 bail for a January 7 court appearance.

Multiple Charges

Newtown police arrested a Brookfield woman on three warrants at Danbury Superior Court on December 17, charging her with seven criminal offenses.

Police charged Diane Dimone, 32, with two counts of issuing a bad check, two counts of sixth-degree larceny, and one count each of third-degree larceny, fourth-degree larceny, and second-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said the arrests stem incidents in which Dimone allegedly passed bad checks and took merchandise in 2007. Police said local businesses and a resident were the victims.

Dimone was arraigned on the charges in court on December 17.

Four Vehicles

Police report an incident in which two two-vehicle accidents occurred near one another on westbound Berkshire Road at its intersection with High Rock Road at about 9:45 am December 15.

The two accidents occurred when westbound traffic slowed in order to allow a westbound vehicle to make a left turn onto High Rock Road, according to police.

In the incident, motorist Shamika Cancel, 24, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1997 Acura Integra, drove into the rear end of a 2000 Ford Escort driven by Marion Perry, 47, of Hamden, police said.

In a separate nearby collision, motorist David Untiedt, 46, of Burlington, who was driving a 2007 Dodge Durango, drove into the rear end of a 2002 Honda CRV driven by Stephan Sichler, 37, of Greenwich, police said.

There were no injuries, according to police. Police said they issued both Cancel and Untiedt infraction tickets for following too closely.

Toyota Into Sign

Police report that motorist Syed Mumtaz, 53, of Milford was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry southward on Main Street, near its intersection with Martin Street, on December 16 when the auto went out of control, skidded to the right and struck a road sign.

Mumtaz was not injured. Mumtaz received a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Old Farm Hill Road

About 5:44 pm December 16, Benjamin Stockmal, 22, of Seymour was driving a private 1993 Ford truck with a snowplow attached to it near 3 Old Farm Hill Road, when while negotiating a curve in the road to the left, the truck went out of control on the snowy road, police said.

The truck moved straight ahead and struck some curbing, after which its plow struck some guard cables, police said.

Stockmal was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Flagpole MVA

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the hazardous flagpole intersection where Main Street, West Street, and Church Hill Road intersect.

Motorist Michael Testani, 57, of Brookfield was driving a 2002 Dodge Caravan minivan southward on Main Street, behind a southbound 2002 Ford F-350 pickup truck driven by Louis Bianco, 35, of 21 Paugussett Road, police report.

The Ford then started to make a right turn onto West Street and was sideswiped on its right side by the Dodge, which attempted to pass the Ford on the right, police said.

Police said Testani told them he thought that Bianco was making a left turn onto Church Hill Road, so he attempted to pass the Ford on the right side.

There were no injuries. Police issued Testani a written warning for passing on the right.

DUI Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Ashley Defillippo, 22, of Ansonia went to the police station on the morning of December 20, and was charged with driving under the influence and with making an unsafe movement.

Police said the charges stem from a motor vehicle accident that occurred October 13 at the intersection of Wasserman Way and the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84.

After processing, police released Defillippo on a written promise to appear in court on January 8.

Sandy Hook Crash

Police said motorist Patti Roberts, 44, of New Haven was driving a 2007 Nissan Versa eastward near 275 Berkshire Road about 7:30 am December 8, when she failed to negotiate a curve in the road and then hit a gaurdrail, a mailbox and two trees.

Ambulance volunteers then transported Roberts to Danbury Hospital to be medically evaluated, police said. The accident is under investigation.
