Community Invited To âMessiahâ Sing
ROXBURY â The Shepaug Friends of Music will present the Third Annual Community Messiah Sing at 4 pm on Sunday December 30, at Roxbury Congregational Church.
The event is under the direction of Christopher Shay and will feature a community chorus accompanied by a string quartet, with trumpet and organ. Soloists for this performance are soprano Marthe Ryerson, alto Carolyn Shay, tenor Sean Fallen, and bass Michael Forbes.
Christopher Shay is a founding member of Connecticut Choral Society and is currently the choral director at Shepaug Valley Middle School and High School. He also teaches at the University of Connecticut in Waterbury and is organist and choirmaster at St Teresaâs Church in Woodbury.
George Frederick Handelâs masterpiece, Messiah, was his greatest work and is certainly one of the worldâs most beautiful musical compositions. The December 30 program will focus on the Christmas section of the composition.
Admission is free and all will be invited to a post-performance reception. Local singers and choral groups are invited to participate. Schirmer scores may be purchased at the door if desired. For more information, contact Sandy Kleisner at skleisner@charter.net.
