LUCY HODGSON AT SOHO20 CHELSEA

NEW YORK CITY — Soho20 Chelsea Gallery will exhibit “Bounders, Breakers and Swells,” works by Lucy Hodgson, January 4–29.

Hodgson uses recycled wooden shingles, plywood and vinyl siding material to create a world composed of fluid organic structures that simultaneously recall natural phenomena as well as reveal the mechanics of their own construction.

Hodgson mimics the natural ebb and flow of water movement in “Undercurrents,” an installation made up of four pieces, each constructed of two parallel planes of shingles on top of white sand. In Gallery II, the artist is showing an installation of “Bound Abouts,” 18 tightly ruffled pieces of plywood each encased in a skin of clear vinyl spring from the floor, against the wall or off each other and the ephemeral shadows these create continue their sprightly dance on the gallery wall.
