There are two towns in the United States named Mistletoe, one in Owsley County, Kentucky and the other in Jackson County, Oregon.

In Alexander City, Alabama, is a place for travelers called Mistletoe Bough B&B.

Mistletoe was once the state flower of Oklahoma.

In Australia, Ken and Gwen Sloan operate a vineyard called Mistletoe Wines. The Singleton-based winery is near the country’s New England Highway, within a region referred to as Hunter Wine Country/Land of Wine & Ross. This area is an internationally respected wine region.

In 1987, Globe Records released what it called an “11-record track for the season” by a band called The Christmas Jug Band. The all-acoustic album was called Mistletoe Jam.

California has a two-office real estate chain called Mistletoe Realty.

The musician Dulcimer Dan has an album called ‘Neath The Mistletoe.

According to European legend, mistletoe is “the soul of the Oak.”

Many once believed mistletoe marked the spot of a lightning strike on a tree and therefore felt the plant had the power to extinguish fire.

During the Middle Ages, mistletoe was often used above the stoop to keep away witches, goblins and spooky things in general.

Ancient Scandinavians believed mistletoe was sacred. Enemies who came to meet under wild mistletoe were obliged to lay down their weapons and call a truce until the next day.

In the English countryside, Christmas mistletoe is traditionally burned on the 12th night to ensure the happy marriage of youngsters who had kissed underneath it.
