Nick Fraticelli Takes Over Boys’ Track Coaching Duties
Nick Fraticelli takes over as head coach of the Newtown High School boys’ indoor track team and looks to get the most out of his runners, jumpers, and throwers.
An assistant coach at Danbury High from 2006-2013, Fraticelli was named state assistant coach of the year for indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. He was the head girls’ track and field coach for Danbury High from 2014-2023, during which time the team won several FCIAC Championships, State Class LL Championships, as well as two State Open Championships.
Fraticelli was named State Coach of the Year for outdoor track and field in 2019 and several times FCIAC Coach of the Year. A USATF level II certified coach in endurance, youth, as well as jumps he loves teaching the sport.
“Newtown is a wonderful town — my family and I live in Southbury and we frequent Newtown quite often — and the school administration, coaching staff for track and field, as well as the student-athletes have been so welcoming and I have a tremendous amount of excitement about working with the student-athletes, fellow coaches as well as the school at large,” he said. “The boys are really excited as well as coachable and that gives me a lot of optimism about the prospects of the program in the future.
“I believe I bring a lot of positivity to the team. I believe that through positive relationships, hard work, and diligence one can achieve great things in track and field as well as in life,” Fraticelli said. “I hope to create a culture where all members of the team feel valued as well as a part of something immensely positive in their lives. I plan to share the values that the sport has taught me and to work to inspire our student-athletes to work to become the best versions of themselves each day.”
The team begins competition Saturday, January 4, with a meet at Bethel High beginning at 9 am.
