Holiday Closings & Early Deadlines: Christmas & New Year’s

The next two issues of The Newtown Bee will be printed and mailed on their regular schedule, despite the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. There are no special deadlines around these holidays.

The newspaper office will be closed Mondays, December 26 and January 2. It will reopen at 8 am on Tuesdays, December 27 and January 3.

Advertisers and Editorial contributors are reminded that all regular Tuesday deadlines will be in effect each week.

Holiday Closings, Other Schedule Changes

Town offices and agencies will close at noon Friday, December 23, and remain closed until 8 am, Tuesday, December 27, for the Christmas holiday weekend.

The transfer station at the former landfill on Ethan Allen Road will close at 11 am Saturdays, December 24 and 31.

Newtown Community Center will close at 1 pm December 24, and remain closed December 26. There are no classes December 25-26.

The following week, the center will close at 4 pm New Year’s Eve (no classes that day), and then remain closed on January 1. There are no classes on January 2.

C.H. Booth Library will close at 1 pm Friday, December 23, and remain closed December 24-26. It will reopen Tuesday, December 27, at 9:30 am.

The same schedule will be followed the following week, for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, for town offices, the transfer station, and the town library.

Edmond Town Hall will not be screening movies on December 24-25. Screenings of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever resume Monday, December 26.

Newtown’s public schools will have early dismissal on Friday, December 23, and then be closed through Monday, January 2. Classes will resume Tuesday, January 3.

In addition, there will be no regular mail delivery on December 25-26 or January 1-2; both are United States Postal Service holidays.

Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles offices continue to operate by appointment only. Many services are being completed online. Visit portal.ct.gov/DMV for details.

On Christmas Eve, local Stop & Shop stores will close at 6 pm. The stores will remain closed on Christmas Day.

The following week, on New Year’s Eve, all stores will close at 9 pm. On New Year’s Day, stores will be open 7 am-9 pm.

Local, state, and federal entities will all be affected by the approaching holidays. Deadlines for The Newtown Bee will not.
