Chainsaw Theft

Police report that a chainsaw valued at about $500 was stolen from a garage at a Sleepy Hollow Road residence sometime between December 1 and December 7. Sleepy Hollow Road is a dead-end street that extends from Valley Field Road South in Sandy Hook. Police are investigating and ask anyone with knowledge about the incident to contact Officer William Hull at the police station by telephone at 203-426-5841 or via e-mail at william.hull@newtown-ct.gov.

Off The Road

Motorist Kara Whipkey, 25, of 26 The Boulevard was driving a 2012 Nissan Rogue SUV westward near 8 Johnny Appleseed Drive in slippery conditions at about 9:33 am on December 10, when the vehicle inadvertently slid off the right side of the street on a curve and then entered some brush, coming to rest against a utility pole, police said.

Whipkey was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Sandy Hook Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred in slippery conditions at the intersection of Glen Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road about 10 am on December 10, police report.

Motorist Devon Johnson, 51, of 30 Farm Field Ridge Road, who was driving a 2012 Honda CRV SUV on Glen Road, attempted to make a right turn onto Walnut Tree Hill Road, but in doing so, struck motorist Adam Zuckerman, 44, of 2 Deer Trail, who was driving a 2003 Nisan Frontier pickup truck on eastbound Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Johnson received a written warning for making an improper turn, police said.

Garbage Truck Incident

At 10:07 am on December 11, Pedro Borday, 41, of New Milford was driving a garbage truck, which was positioned in the southbound lane of Queen Street, just south of its intersection with Borough Lane, police said.

Southbound motorist Rebecca Reilly, 21, of Southbury, who was driving a 2011 Lincoln MKX SUV, then stopped behind the truck, police said.

The garbage truck then backed up into the front end of the Lincoln, police said. There were no injuries. Borday received an infraction for improper backing, according to police.

Arrest Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Jennifer Mahoney, 28, of Derby went to the police station about 10:20 am on December 11 and was charged with sixth-degree larceny and with illegally obtaining drugs, police said.

The arrest follows a police investigation into a complaint which they received on August 26.

After processing, police released Mahoney on a written promise to appear in court on January 3.

DUI Arrest

Police report that at about 3:13 pm on December 11, they received a report from a person at an industrial building on Peck’s Lane concerning a vehicle that was driven erratically, after which its driver parked the auto and then walked away from it unsteadily, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they located the driver in question and investigated, after which they charged motorist Elizabeth Agostino, 67, of Goldens Bridge, N.Y., with driving under the influence.

After processing, police released Agostino on $100 bail for a December 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Toddy Hill Road 3-Car Accident

At about 3:25 pm on December 11, southbound motorist Elizabeth Krauss, 39, of 22 Beechwood Drive, who was driving a 2002 Toyota Camry sedan, stopped for traffic conditions near 1 Toddy Hill Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Desiree Ann Vaiuso, 47, of 90 Waterview Drive, who was driving a 1995 Honda Accord sedan, then stopped behind the Toyota, police report.

Southbound motorist Allen Steeves, 71, of Easton, who was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty SUV, then struck the rear end of the Honda, pushing the Honda into the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Steeves received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Church Hill Road Accident

About 6 pm on December 11, motorist Ashley Carlson, 27, of 50 Great Quarter Road, who was driving a 2013 Volkswagen Passat sedan eastward on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, stopped the Volkswagen, after which it was struck from behind by motorist David Fiore, 51, of 19 Taunton Lake Drive, who was driving a 2004 Acura RSX coupe, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Fiore for following too closely.

Ford & Lexus Strike Deer

Police report that motorist Joseph Scotto, 54, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2005 Ford SUV, and motorist Amy Ricketts, 50, of 12 Charter Ridge Drive, who was driving a 2010 Lexus RX-350 SUV, were both traveling southward on Berkshire Road, near Skidmore Road, about 6 pm on December 11, when both vehicles struck a deer.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

DUI Rollover

Motorist Laura Crisp 27, of Southbury was driving a 1998 Subaru vehicle eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Checkerberry Lane, at about 1 am on December 12, when she failed to negotiate a curve in the road and then entered the westbound lane, police said.

The vehicle went off the westbound side of the road and traveled eastward on an embankment for about 170 feet before rolling down that embankment and coming to rest on its passenger side in the westbound lane, police said.

There was a child in the vehicle when the accident occurred, police said. There were no injuries.

After investigating, police charged Crisp with driving under the influence, illegal possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to keep to the right, and risk of injury to a minor.

After processing, Crisp was released on $1,000 bail for a January 7 court appearance, police report.

School Bus Clipped

An accident involving a school bus without passengers and a tractor-trailer truck occurred about 2 pm on December 13 at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way.

Police said Rodney Warnick, 41, of Kersey, Penn., was driving a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck northward on Berkshire Road and then attempted to make a left turn onto westbound Wasserman Way, when the truck struck the left exterior rear-view mirror of a 2004 Chevrolet school bus that was waiting at traffic signal on eastbound Wasserman Way. Elizabeth Pepin, 32, of Waterbury was driving the school bus, police said.

There were no injuries. Warnick received a written warning for making an improper turn, according to police.

South Main Street Collision

At about 2:20 pm on December 13, motorist Rosemary Werner, 71, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, was exiting a driveway at 71 South Main Street, as motorist Leif Ammentorp, 87, of 5-A Morgan Drive was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty SUV northward on South Main Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were  no injuries. Police said they issued Werner a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Interstate Crash

About 3:45 pm on December 13, motorist Michael Marrero, 28, of New haven was driving a 1997 Buick Riviera coupe eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, when an unknown red vehicle cut in front the Buick, state police said.

To avoid colliding with that red vehicle, Marrero swerved to the left, but struck a tree on the median, state police said. Marrero was not injured.

Button Shop Road Accident

At about 10:53 am on December 14 in snowy conditions, motorist Katherine Wojcik, 17, of 2 Bari Drive was driving a 2004 Subaru Forester SUV westward on a snow-covered Button Shop Road, when the vehicle went out of control and drove off the right side of the street, striking a tree, police report.

Wojcik was not injured. Police said they issued Wojcik an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Threatening

On December 14, police learned that a 13-year-old boy from Sandy Hook had made some threatening remarks to an unidentified person while on a school bus on the preceding day, so they investigated the allegations.

On December 14 at the police station, police charged that boy with second-degree threatening. After arrest processing, the boy was released on a written promise to appear on January 6 in Danbury Juvenile Court, police said.

Arrest Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for her, Lisa Belvedere-Santini, 45, of 14 Lake Road went to the police station about 4 pm on December 16 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, police said.

Police said that on October 8 they had stopped motorist Belvedere-Santini and charged her with driving a vehicle with a suspended registration, but she did not make a required court appearance on the charge, resulting in a warrant being issued against her.

Police released her on $500 bail for a January 3 court appearance on the two charges.

Vehicle vs Pedestrian

Police report that an accident involving an unspecified vehicle and an unidentified pedestrian occurred at about 10:20 pm on December 18 near 174 Boggs Hill Road.

That location is about halfway between Boggs Hill Road’s intersections with Hattertown Road and Mt Nebo Road.

Police said that the injured pedestrian was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries. Other information on the incident is not yet available.

Police ask anyone who saw the accident happen or who saw a pedestrian walking in that area between 10 and 10:20 pm that night to contact investigating Officer Matthew Wood at the police station at 203-426-5841.
