AP — SCRAP YARD RESCUES STOLEN SCULPTURES

AVV 12-14 #722721

HINESBURG, VT. (AP) — Vermont State Police say they expect to charge at least two young adults in connection with the thefts of some 30 bronze sculptures worth in the hundreds of thousands of dollars from a North Troy studio.

The works by internationally renowned sculptor Joel Fisher were slated to be melted down for their copper content until a Hinesburg scrap yard operator tipped police office about receiving some of the stolen sculptures.

Officials say 22 of the 30 sculptures have been recovered so far.

Copper, the main ingredient in bronze, is selling for about $2 per pound, up about 100 percent from five years ago.
