‘Shrew’ Extended At TheatreWorks

NEW MILFORD — Due to popular demand TheatreWorks has extended the run of its season finale, Shakespeare’s classic comedy The Taming of the Shrew. Performances will now continue through January 6.

“Demand for tickets has been phenomenal,” said artistic director Bill Hughes. “The show has been playing to packed houses and has been a great way to wrap up the 2000 season. Since it has been selling out early, we have added two performances to accommodate the crowds.”

Under the direction of Jane Farnol, TheatreWorks’ production of The Taming of the Shrew is a fast, funny and physical production that has received critical acclaim from reviewers in Connecticut and New York.

“This is not stodgy classroom Shakespeare,” said Ms Farnol. “We have brought Shrew back to its roots by making it first and foremost entertaining. Broad physical comedy, bawdy innuendo, and Shakespeare’s skewering wit have been blended into a wild evening of theater accessible to both young and old.”

Remaining performances for The Taming of the Shrew are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 pm. Tickets for all shows are $12.50 for adults and $10.50 for students and seniors.

Limited seating is still available for New Year’s Eve. Tickets for a December 31 gala are $20 each, which includes a champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception with the company following the show.

Reservations can be made any time by calling the box office at 860/350-6863. TheatreWorks is a 100 seat, non-profit, award-winning theatre at 5 Brookside Avenue, just off Route 202 (next to M&B’s IGA) in New Milford.
