George M. Hadad

George "Jigzy" Hadad, 86, of Newtown, husband of Patricia (Ekelund) Hadad, died December 16 at Danbury Hospital. He was born in Danbury, on May 6, 1930, a son to Kerime (Showah) and Michael Hadad.

He attended Danbury grade schools, Danbury High School, and the University of Bridgeport.

He was a retired warehouse manager at the former Fairfield Hills State Hospital of Newtown, retiring in 1985 after 29 years of service. Upon retirement, Mr Hadad did house painting in the greater Danbury area, for which his family was well known for several generations.

Mr Hadad was a US Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St George Antiochian Orthodox Church of Danbury.

A lifelong area resident, he served as a softball (the Opel's), baseball, and basketball coach with the Newtown Parks and Recreation. He enjoyed fishing and archery, was a firefighter at Fairfield Hills Hospital, and a member of the Danbury Rod & Reel Association, VFW Post 308 of Newtown, and St George Men's Club.

Most especially, Mr Hadad enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren and watching their activities.

His loved ones say, "He will be sorely missed by all who knew him."

In addition to his wife of 54 years, his son, David M. Hadad of Southbury; daughter, Michele P. Hadad of Chicago; four brothers, Albert Hadad of Danbury, John Hadad of New Fairfield, Nicholas Hadad of Morris, and Louis Hadad of Royal Palm Beach, Fla; a sister, Marion Horton of New Milford; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews survive him.

The family will receive friends at St George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 125 Kohanza Street, Danbury, on Tuesday, December 27, from 9:30 to 10:45 am. The Rite of Burial will follow at 11 am, with Very Reverend Father George Alberts officiating. Interment will take place in Newtown Village Cemetery, 22 Elm Drive, Newtown.
