Congregation Adath Israel’s religious school will hold its annual Hanukkah program on Sunday, December 21, at 10:30 am, in the sanctuary at 115 Huntingtown Road.

The Adath Israel religious school serves more than 30 children, kindergarten through seventh grade. Grades 4–7 meet twice a week, once on Sunday and once midweek. The preschool program meets once a month.

This year’s program will feature a skit about the story of Hanukkah with student participation from all the classes. The skit will be followed by the chanukiyah contest. Participants must create a chanukiyah (the special candelabra used during Hanukkah) that is usable (i.e., not flammable and can have candles or oil lamps) and kosher.

Children will also be challenged in that their candles will need to be set in a clearly defined order (ideally, on one level or a single plane), and the shamash (the single candle used to light the other candles) needs to be clearly set apart from the other candles.

Students will vote on the best one chanukiyah, and prizes will be awarded to the winners.

Traditional Hanukkah fare such as latkes and jelly donuts will be served at the end of the program. Parents will supply other baked goods and drinks.

All are welcome. For additional information call 203-426-5188, send e-mail to office@congadathisrael.org, or visit congadathisrael.org.
