C.H. Booth Library will host The Chickadee Spirit Story Time on Saturday, December 28, at 2 pm.

The program had originally been planned for December 14, but needed to be postponed due to the snowstorm last weekend.

Janice Bernard will read The Chickadee Spirit, a children’s book by Bill O. Smith. Ags 5-8 are invited to hear a tale that takes readers into “a curious winter community — strong, kind and slightly screwy, a community welcoming to each and every creature that ventures into the ‘chickadee dome.’ Along the way, children are introduced to the beauties and mysteries of the natural world,” according publisher Sleepytime Press.

The Chickadee Spirit is the second in the Chickadee Series created by Mr Smith, a former elementary school principal in Traverse City, Mich. The idea for his books, he has said, came about when he retired to care for his former mother-in-law as she began her journey into the challenging world of dementia. As her memory dimmed, Mr Smith watched as she retained “her sparkling spirit … [and] lived completely in the moment.”

Following the reading, each child will cover a bagel with bird seeds, to take home and hang outdoors. Each child will also receive a free copy of the book donated by the author.
