No Help From HUSKY

To the Editor:

Every American citizen that I have talked to is completely disgusted, and it’s not due to the obvious economy; it’s due to my 19-year-old daughter’s situation.

My daughter is now five months pregnant with no help from HUSKY. She applied, and for some reason was denied. No explanation just, “You may be accepted in 60 days.” She called her caseworker numerous times leaving messages on this person’s machine with phone numbers and times to call back. No response. As her mother, I even called and informed her caseworker that if she can’t at least show the respect of returning my daughter’s messages that I will find someone who will listen and hopefully help out; that was a week ago.

She is supposed to go for an ultrasound and now is putting it off hoping that a miracle will happen and someone can help her out. What’s sad is everyone I’ve talked to has one comment, “She’s an American they won’t help her.” She is not looking to go on welfare, just assistance with her pregnancy. What kind of program is HUSKY if a young woman who works part-time at the dollar store and her new husband just started work at a grocery store can’t get assistance, let alone a response to why they were denied. I thought this program was to help, instead she is delaying on medical attention she needs and who knows what else she’ll put off from here on. I hope that someone can step forward, I don’t know where to go from here.
