Great Support
To the Editor:
The Canine Advocates of Newtown organization is always looking for creative ways to generate money for the building fund of the new Newtown Dog Pound. The benefits of this facility will provide the homeless pets of Newtown a pleasant place, properly equipped, with all the necessities to make life comfortable while they await their forever home. Being a dog walker for the advocates and the delighted owner of âPiggy,â my newly adopted blind pug, I am always inspired by this devoted group and the animals I meet at the pound.
On December 4 my husband and I hosted a party at our home in hopes of raising money for this fund. I asked local shops and friends to help me with the event. Much to my delight. it was met with great support! Local graphic designer Beckett Kohl-Condon and Leslie Pearson of BP Independent Graphics helped me get the ball rolling with fabulous invitations and posters.
Local shops and business owners generously donated items and services to the silent auction. Included were: Bek Meyers, LLC, artist, Y.E.S. Errand Service with Liz Luzietti, Choice Pet, Sandy Hook Wine & Liquor, personal trainer Tracy Kuligowski, Lucy Rossi, make-up consultant, Newtown Nail Salon, New Beginning Salon & Day Spa, chocolates from Prudential realtor Mandy Beckett, and professional dog trainer Craig Lynch. Local vendors included were; Mary Kay Cosmetics with Malanie Quimby, Silpada Designs with Lisa OâLeary, Lisa Cascone Photography and 1,000 gourmet dog biscuits eagerly baked and sold by my kids, Carly, Ryan, and Kyle along with Santa helpers Mary Joe Rossi, Ashley Beckett and countless friends and neighbors.
The night exceeded our expectations in many ways. The generosity of the people who attended was incredible. At this time of year, when money is tight and the economy questionable, we raised $1,200. Inspiring and raising the awareness of people unaware of the conditions at the current pound was my true intention.
On behalf of the animals at the Newtown Pound, I would also like to thank Carolee, Amy, Sue, and Craig along with the Canine Advocates for their unconditional kindness, compassion, and commitment.
What a blessing to live and participate in such a generous community.
