Pilobolus Returning To Washington In January
WASHINGTON â Fresh from a performance at Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the world famous Pilobolus Dance Theatre will perform Friday and Saturday, January 12 and 13, at 7:30 pm, for the benefit of After School Arts Program at Shepaug Valley High School.
Pilobolus performs for stage and television audiences all over the world. Works are also represented in the repertoires of other major dance companies including the Joffrey, Feld, Ohio, Hartford and Arizona Ballet companies in the United States, the Ballet National de Nancy et de Lorraine in France, and Italyâs Verona Ballet.
The company has received several prestigious honors, among them a Berlinâs Criticâs Prize, 1997 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Achievement in Cultural Programming, The Scotsman Award at Edinburgh Festival, New England Theatre Conference Prize and Connecticut Commission for the Arts Award of Excellence.
Pilobolus sprang from a Dartmouth College dance class in 1971 with a desire to create something new. The group was immediately acclaimed for its startling mix of humor and invention. In addition it is known for its acrobatic choreography and trademark exotic contortions of the human body.
