An Afternoon With Johannes Brahms
WATERBURY â Chamber music by the German-Austrian composer Johannes Brahms will comprise the program of Greater Waterbury Classic Concertsâ second concert of the season. The performance will be on Sunday, January 7, at 3 pm, in the recital hall at St Margaretâs-McTernan Schools, 565 Chase Parkway.
Adult tickets are $15, senior citizen and student tickets are $10 and children under 12 will be admitted for $5. The featured performers will be pianist Oleg Polianskyi, clarinetist Vincent deLuise and cellist Yegor Dyachkov. Mr Polianskyi, the winner of second prize in the 1999 World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, and of international competitions in Tokyo and Montreal, has thrilled audiences with past performances for Greater Waterbury Classic Concertsâ Chamber Music Series Institute-Festivals. He will play three Intermezzi for piano (Op. 117) and join with Mr deLuise to play Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in F minor, Op. 120 (No. 1).
During the intermission, Mr deLuise will present a slide-illustrated discussion of the âSwansongs,â works of Brahmsâ late years.
The second half of the program will feature Sonata for Cello and Piano in F Major, Op. 99 with Yegor Dyachkov joining Mr Polianskyi. Mr Dyachkov, making his debut performance for GWCC, received the 2000 Artist of the Year Award from Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as well as the Young Canadian Musician Award. He regularly tours internationally and his performances are broadcast and televised in Canada and abroad.
The program will conclude with all three artists performing Sonata for Clarinet, Cello and Piano.
