George E. Dimyan, 83, a lifelong resident of Danbury, husband of June (Alhage) Dimyan, died December 16. Affectionately known by most as “Wimpy,” he was born in Danbury, May 17, 1931, a son of Celia (Jowdy) and Joseph Dimyan.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, his children and their spouses, Michael P. and Jennifer Dimyan of Newtown, George J. and Diana Dimyan of New Fairfield, Doreen M. and Gary Goncalves of Danbury, Susan A. Dimyan of Danbury, and Dawn M. and Jay Lauf of Fairfield; 12 grandchildren, Lauren Kilcourse, Kristin, Amanda, and Jeffrey Goncalves, Andrew David, Chelsea Dimyan, Colin David, Joseph Dimyan, Jordan Lauf, Caroline Lauf, Nicholas Dimyan, and Julia Dimyan; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews survive Mr Dimyan. His parents; two brothers, Edmond Dimyan and Kamil Salame; and a sister, Mary Dimyan Basher, predeceased Mr Dimyan.

He attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School in the Class of 1949. He joined the family business, Dimyan’s Market, at the corner of Elm and Beaver Streets, Danbury, upon graduation and later co-owned it with his brother Edmond, for 35 years. For the past 30 years, Mr Dimyan was associated with the former Dimyan’s Wholesale, which became Dandy Distributors.

Mr Dimyan was a member of St Anthony Maronite Catholic Church and the Lebanon-American Club, both of Danbury.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, December 19, at 6:45 pm, in St Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 17 Granville Avenue, Danbury, with the Reverend Naji K. Wakim officiating. Interment will be private, on Saturday, at St Peter Cemetery, Danbury. Calling hours are scheduled in St Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, Friday, December 19, from 3:30 to 6:30 pm.
