FineLine Theatre Arts Will Present

Its Take On ‘Nutcracker’ In Three Performances

NEW MILFORD — FineLine Theatre Arts will present The Nutcracker on Saturday and Sunday, December 19-20, at Canterbury School, 101 Aspetuck Avenue in New Milford.

For the past three years, the full-spectrum New Milford based school has been providing professional instruction in ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, tap, musical theatre and voice, as well as acting for students ages three and up. At the present time, they have over 300 students in their various programs.

This year, FineLine’s unique holiday performance includes nearly 100 pupils from their acting, musical theater and dance departments. Opening with a non-traditional first act, their story tells of different “families” who attend the Christmas classic and how the show resonates with their own personal traditions. It incorporates musical theater songs and dances, acted scenes, tap dances and naturally, classical ballet.

“We started thinking of the Nutcracker and what a huge tradition it is every year and we wanted to explore that idea,” said Elizabeth  Parkinson, founder and director of FineLine.

Mr Parkinson has performed globally with the Joffrey Ballet, Feld Ballet, Donald Byrd/The Group and Twyla Tharp Dance. Seen all over Broadway, she played the lead in Fosse and in the Billy Joel-Twyla Tharp hit Movin’ Out, where she earned a 2003 Tony Award nomination and took home the Astaire Award for Best Female Dancer on Broadway.

The production has been choreographed by all of FineLine’s teaching artists and directed by Scott Wise, Ms Parkinson’s husband and a Tony Award winner. Advanced student Tiffany Billings will be performing the coveted role of the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Performances are Saturday at 7:30 pm, and Sunday at 3 and 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students; children under age 6 are admitted free of charge.
