Ballroom Dancing In Bethel

BETHEL — The Center for New Media and The Arts will presents a fun-filled night of ballroom dance this weekend.

On Saturday, December 19, from 7 to 11 pm, the center will host an evening of dancing and refreshments.

The term ballroom dance comes from the Latin word “ball,” meaning “to dance.” Over the centuries ballroom has assumed various incarnations of partnered dance forms.

“Today’s ballroom dance often encompasses such dances as rhumba, merenge, swing, mambo, jive and others. At the Center we simply define ballroom dance as a lot of fun,” said Stephen Snow, the creative director of The Center for New Media and The Arts. “Come learn to ballroom boogie, or show off what you already know.”

Doors will open at 7, and a free group lesson will be offered from 7:30 to 8. Admission is $15, which will include dancing and refreshments to include wine, beer, soft drinks and snack foods.

The Center for New Media and the Arts is at 186 Greenwood Avenue (second floor). Call 203-797-1786 or visit dv-arts.com for additional information.
