*New Self-Check Out Machine in the Childrenâs Department: Thanks to a grant from the Friends of the Library, the Childrenâs Department now has a self-check out machine.
The new self-check out is located on the counter next to the dollhouse. Just remember youâll need to have your library card in hand in order to use this wonderful time saving device.
Childrenâs Programs
*Beyond Candy Land â European Board Game Fun: Tired of the same old board games? Educator Eric Paradis will introduce children and their parents to a wide variety of unique, fun and challenging games in the meeting room on Wednesday, December 30, from 1 to 4 pm.
The program is for ages 4 to adult, and parents must remain in the room with children under age 10. Registration for this program can be done online.
Adult Programs
*Reality Maps (â¦.or Not Your Usual Memoir): Julie Stern is back to lead another great book discussion. This time sheâll focus on four American memoirs.
From Rory Stewartâs adventure narrative set in Afghanistan to Mary-Ann Tirone Smithâs description of blue collar Hartford in the 1940s and 50s, the four books selected by Julie offer insightful portraits of places and experiences different form our own, yet universal in their humanity.
Discussions will be Wednesday nights starting at 7:30 and will cover the following: January 13, Places in Between by Rory Stewart; January 27, Girls of Tender Age by Mary-Ann Tirone Smith; February 10, The Colored People by Henry Louis Gates Jr; and February 24, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris.
