Newtown ran its record to 9-0 with victories this past weekend over Ridgefield and Stamford.

NEWTOWN 44, RIDGEFIELD 32: Ashley Larocque scored 11 points while Meghan Kelley and Emily Nezvesky combined for 14 more to lead Newtown to the win, Katie OâConnor had 10 rebounds while Courtney Brunton and Jackie Ercole had solid performances.
NEWTOWN 44, STAMFORD 30: Jackie Curran scored 14 points and Ashley Larocque added 11 more to lead Newtown to its ninth win of the season. Megan LaFlamme (five points), Katie OâConnor (four points) and Siobhan Cooper (four points) all had key baskets. Jessica Palermo was strong under the glass while Courtney Brunton had a solid floor game.
GIRLS 7TH-8TH GRADE

NEWTOWN 35, ST. ROSE 27: Vicky Thomas scored 11 points and Vicky Caruso added 10 to lead Newtown past St. Rose. Lindsey Weber tossed in six points while Melissa Russell and Rose Jackman played well on defense.
BROOKFIELD 34, NEWTOWN 21: Vicky Thomas and Aime Walston combined for 15 points in a loss to Brookfield. Erica Helsel and Rachel Eastman also played well.

BOYS 7TH GRADE

BROADVIEW 44, NEWTOWN 28: Drew Harmata scored eight points and Marc Ingerman added six as Newtown fell to Broadview. Steve Neylon chipped in with five points. Broadview used its height advantage to control boards even though Harmata was able to pull down 11 rebounds and Harmata was able to grab five.
TRUMBULL 38, NEWTOWN 37: Drew Harmata and Stephen Kean scored eight points apiece while Brian Shimko and Marc Ingerman scored seven apiece as Newtown fell to Trumbull. Newtown was down as much as 12 points in this one before tying the game at 37-37 with 22 seconds remaining. Harmata and Ingerman combined for 15 rebounds while Alex Caruso and Jack Capito had fine floor games for Newtown, now 3-3 on the season.
GIRLS 5TH/6TH GRADE

REDDING 32, NEWTOWN 26: A fourth-quarter rally came up short. Darcy Fiscella and Amy Kelley scored eight points each with Kelley pulling down 12 rebounds. Fiscella added seven steals while Christie Iwanicki had six. Jill Logan contributed six points and seven rebounds.
NEWTOWN 51, BEACON FALLS 6: Amy Kelley and Jill Logan scored 14 points apiece and combined for 23 rebounds as Newtown rolled to an easy win. Christie Iwanicki had six points and four steals while Erin Baier had six rebounds and four steals. Samantha Wong made six steals.
NEWTOWN 70, DARIEN 25: Newtown jumped out to a 24-3 first-quarter lead enroute to another easy win. Amy Kelley had 20 points and 24 rebounds while Jill Logan had 14 points and 15 rebounds. Samantha Wong chipped in with 10 points while Christie Iwanicki added eight points and five steals.
BOYS 6TH GRADE

KNIGHTS 40, NEW FAIRFIELD 23: Max Reed scored eight points and Joe Curran added seven as the Knights opened the season with a win. Danny Murdoch and Ben Gersten chipped in with six points apiece. Cody Shpunt grabbed 12 rebounds and Mike Tibbetts had 10.
KNIGHTS 35, BETHEL 11: Mike Tibbetts scored 10 points and Billy McCann added six as the Knights â with a combination of tough defenses â stopped Bethel cold. Joe Curran and JP McDade combined for 16 rebounds while point guard Michael Klein dished off eight assists.
KNIGHTS 45, NEW FAIRFIELD 16: JP McDade had 10 points and eight rebounds as the Knights beat New Fairfield for the second time. Michael Klein and Joe Curran scored seven points each while Aron Fay and Danny Murdoch added six points apiece. Cody Shpunt and Max Reed led the defense.
WESTPORT Y 36, KNIGHTS 33: The Knights fell behind early and saw their furious comeback, spurred by the three-point barrage of Michael Klein (3) and Cody Shpunt (1) fall just short in the fourth quarter. Aron Fay scored five points while Max Reed and Ben Gersten grabbed nine rebounds apiece. Mike Tibbetts made five steals to lead the defense.
BOYS 5TH GRADE

SOUTHBURY 35, NEWTOWN 34: Greg Rodden scored a game-high 10 points in a balanced-scoring effort, but Newtownâs rally back from an early 15-2 deficit fell one point short. Kevin Troy, Michael Maher, Jared Modzelewski, Danny Smith and Jason Smith scored four points apiece. Newtown ralled back from that early deficit on key baskets by Rodden, Danny Smith, Danny Giorno, PJ Cochrane and Modzelewski to trim the lead to 22-16 at the half. In the fourth quarter, Newtown really turned it on, outscoring Southbury by seven, but the rally fell short. Matt Boland and Bobby Lapple were strong on defense.
