Taunton Press Debuts Farm-To-Table iPad App

Newtown-based Taunton Press is launching its first cookbook iPad app for its critically acclaimed title, Harvest to Heat: Cooking with America’s Best Chefs, Farmers, and Artisans by Darryl Estrine and Kelly Kochendorfer, the first farm-to-table cookbook with its own standalone application for the hand-held device.

Named “best overall” cookbook of 2010 by epicurious.com and hailed as the “the fall’s most beautiful cookbook” by Newsweek, Harvest to Heat comes to life in a new way through this app that fully utilizes the iPad’s large screen size and unique, interactive features.

The new app is available free from the iTunes App Store. This impressive visual product includes:

*Step-by-step directions for starters, soups, main dishes, sides, and desserts in 12 never-before-published recipes from some of America’s best chefs, including Daniel Boulud, Mark Gaier & Clark Frasier, Maria Hines, Johnny Iuzzini, Thomas Keller, Barbara Lynch, Waldy Malouf, Naomi Pomeroy, David Shea, Nancy Silverton, Bill Taibe, and Eric Warnstedt.

*Behind-the-scenes photos and stories of some of the best farmers and food artisans in the country.

*An interactive map to the restaurants, farmers, and food artisans who are featured in the book.

*A photo gallery that visually showcases the collaboration of chefs and artisans.

“Harvest to Heat has struck a chord nationwide by capturing in words, pictures, and recipes the unique collaboration of our country’s hardworking chefs and the heroic men and women who grow, herd, fish, ranch, and create artisanal foods that supply these chefs,” said Carolyn Mandarano, Taunton’s managing editor. “This exciting new application will give both fans of farm-to-table cooking and home cooks everywhere a glimpse into what they can discover in the book.”
