AP — BRONZE CASTING OF GIRL TAKEN FROM PARK IN BEREA, KY.

BEREA, KY. (AP) — Police in Berea say two men have stolen a bronze statue from a city park.

The statue was part of a group of castings that represents education in the central Kentucky city.

Surveillance video from a nearby bank shows the men ripping the 4-foot-tall statue from its anchor and carrying it away.

City Administrator Randy Stone estimates it would take more than $20,000 to replace it.

Berea College gave the statues to the city to commemorate the school’s 150th anniversary. They were unveiled in June.

Police say the men could intend to sell the statue for scrap or the theft could have been a prank.
